Dr. Romanelli’s unique work is not limited to reworking vintage jackets or the occasional Converse collaboration, as we see him here with an offering for the ladies. The good doctor got with Janis Joplin inspired label, Made for Pearl, on these vests made exclusively for Just One Eye. A total of 5 elaborate fur and leather vests were created and are available now through the Just One Eye store.

Dr. Romanelli has teamed up with Nike on a custom 1 of 1 Destroyer Jacket, applying his technique of cutting up and putting together different kinds of fabric. The jacket was donated on behalf of Nike to the Black AIDS Institute.The Institute’s Mission is to stop the AIDS pandemic in Black communities by engaging and mobilizing Black institutions and individuals in efforts to confront HIV.

The Dr. Romanelli Beetle Bailey vs. Popeye project goes into its next chapter. Bloomingdales in New York has now received the Holiday 2011 Bomber Jacket Collection. Army and navy inspired materials and colors have been used for the jackets, with the cartoon characters of the project, Beetle Bailey and Popeye, always embroidered on the back of the jackets.

Boylston Trading Company is excited to mark the launch of their new online venture with a limited run of Japanese selvedge denim. The pant is limited to 50 pieces and was made in collaboration with Japanese premium menswear brand, Anachronorm, and Los Angeles based designer, Dr. Romanelli. Each pair comes in a straight fit and features a custom branded leather patch, gold hardware and tonal “DRX” embroidery on the left leg.

This is part one of the exclusive Boylston project with a 5 pair capsule of 1 of a kind Romanelli denim reworkings coming soon.

Following up on the Dr. Romanelli x Medicom Toy Beetle Bailey & Popeye Bearbricks, the designer from Los Angeles has once again joined forces with Converse to add some sneakers to the Beetle Bailey Vs Popeye Collection, which will launch exclusively at Bloomingdales on October 15th, 2011.

Together with Converse Dr. Romanelli presents two Chuck Taylor All Star Hi sneakers. One of them features a military green canvas upper, black leather details, gum sole with rubber toe cap and numerous embroidery and a Beetle Bailey comic strip print lining. The sneaker came out really nice, perfectly telling the story, while also being easy to wear. The second one comes with a black wool upper, anker embroidery detail, red line detail on the ankle support and also a Popeye comic strip print lining. All in all really clean.

Romanelli once again presents a very round and well executed project. We are hearing rumors that some more highlights (hint.. Bamford) will drop along with the line, that we can hopefully report about soon.

Dr. Romanelli uses his surgical clothing aesthetic and envelopes a bespoke skull, stitched together in a Japanese boro cloth-like style. Different fabric sections of the skull are sewn on and peeled off, Dr. Romanelliʼs piece evolving through different looks, referencing the history of the boro fabric, one that saw the re-imagining and re-using of materials to create something that represents both new and tells the tale of what came before, the generational storybooks of textile history.

The skull is part of the Beck’s Green Box Project and will be exhibited from September 29th until October 2nd 2011 at

As part of his upcoming Holiday 2011 Army vs Navy Collection, Dr. Romanelli teamed up once again with Medicom Toy on some Bearbrick toys.

On the ‘Army’ side he presents the Beetle Bailey Bearbricks in 400% and 100% sizes and on the ‘Navy’ side he presents Popeye Bearbricks in 400% and 100% sizes. The toys will release October 2011 at select retailers.

Project Wooster was a special section, hosted by Nick Wooster, at the recent Project Tradeshow in Las Vegas. An impressive line-up of brands was presented in the section, among them also Dr. Romanelli’s new ‘Atlantic Yachting’ Collection.

“The textiles were sourced through Captain Alexander Pincus and his Atlantic Yachting business in Manhattan NYC. We were at dinner a few months back and Alex offered to ship me a selection of his older sails that had been in storage , some dating back to the late 80′s . I had never worked with sails before but was inspired by the idea of reworking them into a collection of blazers, shorts and bags for PROJECT WOOSTER. I was very intrigued by the spinnakers which help move the sailboat faster downwind. The spinnaker is often a colorful sail and it was amazing to see the effect the salt has on the deterioration of the fabric revealing the under-layer of materials. I tried to mimic this visual by selecting lighter textiles for the DRx garments revealing the bold linings via the blazers and shorts.”

The collection features blazers, pants, shorts and some bags.

The result is Taz’s cherished archives – now transformed into a limited run of exquisite, hand sewn jackets, hat, and totes. The Americans have taken Polo’s iconic early ‘90s Teddy Bear/Ski Lodge prep, beloved by early hip-hop icons and cool kids alike… and transformed it into their own poetic ode to pop culture.”

Some of the most iconic Polo trademarks are used in the collection, mixed with a vintage sport aesthetic. The combination of graphics, materials and silhouettes is very impressive and throws you back in time. We will keep you posted on the launch of the collection.

Dr. Romanelli presents the first release from his Fall/Winter 2011 ‘Another Summit’ Collection, once again exclusively produced for Barneys Japan. The release consists of knit cardigans, featuring an interesting range of all-over patterns, enhanced with leather shawl collars and front pockets. The choice is wide, so you can be sure that there is a pattern that speaks to everybody.
