Video: Ice Cube Celebrates The Eames

Pacific Standard Time is an unprecedented collaboration of cultural institutions across Southern California coming together to celebrate the birth of the L.A. art scene. In this new video segment, Ice Cube celebrates The Eames for Pacific Standard Time.

“Ice Cube drives Inglewood blvd. describing the Los Angeles that he knows. He talks of landmarks like The Forum, Five Torches, Cockatoo Inn, Brolly Hut, and Watts Towers. He refers to the 110 as “Gangsta Highway”. Cube says coming from South Central LA teaches you how to be resourceful. The video cuts to Cube walking the Eames House perimeter, through the Eames living room, and sitting in the Eames lounge chair. He brings us back to his NWA years when he studied architectural drafting before launching his rap career. One thing he learned that translates is to always have a plan. Cube describes the modern, green and resourceful building design of Charles and Ray Eames. Visionaries of connecting nature and structure. Cube ends by saying “Who are these people who got a problem with LA? Maybe they mad cuz they don’t live here.”"

Check out the video below, as Ice Cube drives through Los Angeles and visits The Eames House.

A Glimpse At TK's (Silly Thing) Art Collection | Kaws, Futura & More

TK of Silly Thing has worked on a series of very impressive projects in recent years. We reported about the recent Iron Man figure, The Beatles 1000% Kubricks and many more. Today we get a look at his personal art collection, which is nothing short of impressive. You will find numerous pieces from Kaws and Futura, along with other great contemporary artists. The symetry that is injected in the collection is also very nice – have a look at his toy line-up, where he placed multiple pieces of the same toy in the same colorway together, forming an overall eye-catching collection.

ilovedust x Eames

Constructed from sculpted forms of moulded plywood, the DCW chair was designed by Ray and Charles Eames in 1946 to comfortably fit the body. These now iconic pieces of furniture have endured to become mid-century modern day classics.

ilovedust have sought to complement the chair’s aesthetic integrity with a tailor-made design drawing inspiration from the relationship between the designers. Based on a dialogue conducted between Ray and Charles during the unveiling of the chair on the Arlene Francis ‘Home’ show broadcast in 1956, each chair has a unique pattern pertaining to one of the designers. The chairs tell a his and hers story with different quotes from each designer and draw heavily on graphics of the time, producing an overall 1950s aesthetic and enhancing one of the most recognisable and prolific pieces of modern design. Each pattern was carefully applied by hand, making these exclusive classics a must-have one of a kind.

The design also runs across a limited edition set of green and blue printed cushions. As a final addition, a specially commissioned hand-screened print is available to buy.

More detailed images of the I Love Dust x Eames DCW Chair, Cushions and Screen Print follow after the jump.
