Not many brands have managed to create such a strong following as Johnny Cupcakes has in Boston with both the webstore and the physical store. People have been lining up for literally every release of the brand. Now they are expanding and announced their second flagship store, which will be on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. One of New York’s most iconic skateboard companies just opened a new flagship store in NYC. Shut NYC opened Local 158 in the Lower Eastside. The store will carry mostly hard goods and some few select other brands.

UK brand Garbstore is about to open its first flagship store in London later this month. Here we have first pictures of the store, for now only of the basement, but it’s already looking really good.
In recent years we finally see some brands turning their back on the otherwise mostly Marketing driven fashion market. They return to their core principles of making good product. The interview that we wrote about this morning with Visvim Designer Hiroki Nakamura nicely demonstrated that, and Garbstore is for sure a brand that belongs in the very same category.

Head Porter is opening a new flagship store in Nagoya, Japan. This the the 3rd store after New York and Tokyo. It will be carrying both the Head Porter and the Head Porter Plus luggage collection.

A Bathing Ape recently opened their latest flagship store, in the Harajuku district of Tokyo. It seems like business is still good also in Japan, unlike many predictions. The new store is bigger than most others and architecturally just as impressive.
Of course they also released some special opening items, including t-shirts and crewneck sweaters. Via Secretbase.

In terms of retail outlets Stussy has always been very prominent in Japan, with overall 48 flagship stores. Always impressive to hear that number. But in 2007 and continuing in 2008 the brand his also increasing their presence on their home market again. Just recently we reported about the Stussy Hawaii flagship store, opened with Jules Gayton of Leilow.
2008 will see another few interesting openings by the brand. The next one to follow is Washington and who else could they have teamed up with, but with Commonwealth owner Omar Quiambao. Not only will they open a Stussy Chapter Store soon, they will also open For The Greater Good, a more mature store for customers that have gotten too old for the Commonwealth brand range. More information once we get closer to the opening.
Also in the next couple of months, we will see the opening of the first Stussy flagship store in Canada. It’s actually surprising that it took so long. The Toronto store will be opened and managed by Matt George, owner of the Goodfoot chain, Nomad and Ransom. Yet another perfect candidate and for sure we will see interesting collaborations from this new partnership.
We hope that Stussy will also start making some more moves in Europe, but for now its the North American turn! Via DNR.

Last week we presented to you the new Crooks & Castles “8021″ collection, a collection that will be exclusively available in their soon to open Los Angeles flagship store. Now we can show you the first “8021″ New Era cap that will be dropping at the opening of the store. It features just like recent t-shirts that we have seen, a new chain embroidery on the front of the cap, and on the back it has “8021″ embroidered on a Gucci-like background. If you want the cap, you better be at the opening this coming Saturday!

This past weekend, Stussy opened their latest Chapter Store, in Honolulu on Hawaii.
“Stussy Honolulu features original artwork by NYC graffiti legend, Ghost, as well as personal touches from Leilow’s Jules Gayton, an original member of the Stussy NYC Tribe. DJ Jules established Leilow in 2003, after years of globetrotting and a desire to slow things down. Jules was able to combine his passion for music, art, skateboarding, surfing, vintage clothes and collecting into Leilow. Jules’ success with Leilow led to Stussy Honolulu. Nexus VII designed two special store tees (Stussy HI x Nexus VII Tee and Stussy HI x Nexus VII Posse Tee) just for the opening.”

A.P.C. recently renovated their flagship store in Daikanyama Japan and reopend it on the 15th of September. Without a doubt we can say, that this latest store is one of their most interesting around the globe. A nice fusion of modern and classic, they have created the perfect world for the brand – simplistic and raw, but at the same time not cold. If you have the chance, pass by to check it out!
