highsnobiety - Highsnobiety Feature: Edward Toft Of Hanon | Talking Flying Club
Located in Aberdeen, Scotland, Hanon Shop carries some of the most innovative independent brands on the market, as well as selected product from some of the majors. Beyond that, the store also works to produce collaborative product that is equally innovative to that which stocks the store and website. Their latest has them working again with New Balance on “The Flying Club.”

Based on two of the most famed RAF aircraft, the Tornado and the Spitfire, “The Flying Club,” also brings a third party to the table, Ventile Fabric. A hearty all-weather cotton, Ventile pushes the theme, and keys on the history capture in the design. Just as their are two planes referenced, their are two shoes in the collection.

I had the opportunity to speak with Hanon’s Edward Toft about the sneakers. He shared background on both the design and his memories of New Balance. With the official release coming up this Saturday, September 6th, it seemed like perfect timing.

highsnobiety - Hanon Flying Club | Hanon x New Balance x Ventile
Once again UK’s Hanon is getting together with New Balance and presenting an impressive project in collaboration with the sneaker brand and Ventile – the Hanon Flying Club.
Entitled The Flying Club, their latest venture is a special release of an archiverunning shoe complete with customised upper. Following their previous collaboration with New Balance, they have looked again to expand the boundaries of materialapplications on some of their favourite running shoes. This time round they
have sourced a superior old school technical fabric by British company Ventile.

Ventile is a densely woven, 100% cotton all weather material. It originated in the 1930’s and  came to prominence during World War II when it was manufactured especially for flying suits due to its unique waterproofing properties. Throughout the years Ventile has developed into a superior performance fabric and as well as a continued military association it has provided technical outerwear for explorers such as Sir Ranulph Fiennes during expeditions of Mount Everest and the Antarctic.

The Flying Club harks back to the early New Balance silhouettes of yester year.Comprising of two models, each one has a customised upper and features detailing that is unique only to this release. They have drawn influence from the simple aesthetic of the 70’s and 80’s styles and reintroduced some of the old school touches they felt would reflect and compliment the heritage of Ventile.

Both the Ventile fabric and footwear are made in the United Kingdom and assembled with the finest materials sourced worldwide. Special features include a single piece N, bound and unbagged vintage mesh tongue, aged EVA midsole unit, bespoke tongue label, old school cotton laces and original polyurethane collar lining.
The outcome is the M670 Tornado and the M670 Spitfire. Each shoe is limited to 150 pieces worldwide. Hanon is looking for a release towards the end of August. We will keep you posted on the release.
Now head on after the jump to get a detailed look at both models.
