Freshjive introduces their Holiday 2011 Collection featuring Left Brain and Hodgy Beats from Mellowhype.

“Influenced by the dirty rotten filthy streets of downtown’s Skid Row, the collection was photographed in the dirty rotten filthy alley behind the Freshjive factory. The Mellowhype boys reign in full effect, along with a cast of background characters (a wheelchair handicapped homeless man, his girl, and streetwalker Nene) ending with a bad bad bitch gettin’ bagged and sagged (and maybe even shagged) right on out of frame. Items include a wool bomber, winterknit sweaters, sweaterknit pants, heavyweight chino pants, custom knitted sweatshirts, fleece blazers, and a handful of t shirts.”

The new Freshjive collection is now available online from Reserve.

Freshjive presents for Fall 2011 ‘The Nude Study Series’ T-Shirts, featuring Sabrine. The collection of three t-shirts, each coming in pale tones featuring a black/white photo print on the front, is now available at select retailers and from the Reserve online store.

Continuing without any name branding, for spring 2012 Freshjive begins focusing on themes for each delivery throughout the season.

The 4 themes for spring 12 are RMK, City Noir, Immigrant, and Less Than Zero. From a darker more high fashion inspired series to California surf inspired goods, the line offers a wide range of styles and looks.

Freshjive has produced ‘The History of Man’, a video to promote the brand’s new collection for Summer 2011:

“L. Ron Hubbard gave his son Nibs some amphetamines, and Nibs started talking, he said, started really going talking fast, from the speed. And he kept talking, he kept talking, and his dad kept giving him speed and all of a sudden he was talking about his history, when he was a clam and all these different situations in early Earth. And out of that came History of Man.” – Jim Dincalci, L. Ron Hubbard’s Medical Officer from “Secret Lives: L. Ron Hubbard”, in a 1997 channel 4 special.

The collection itself has a strong stripe aesthetic throughout, with chambray stripes, twill stripes, engineered blocked stripes, printed stripes and tonal stripes all making an appearance.

The second release from Freshjive’s Moving Pictures moving pictures division, “How to Roll a Blunt,” features a woman sitting down at a table in a non-descript room and proceeding to roll a blunt. “The video, which opens to the tune of “Marijuana Boogie” by Lalo Guerrero Y Sus Cinco Lobos, is contrasted with classic anti-marijuana public service announcement speech. Release of the video also serves as a preview of our Blunt Roll T which will be out in a few weeks.” Freshjive supports the legalization of marijuana.

Opening February 25th, 2011, artist Tofer Chin will be exhibiting a collection of photographs at Reserve LA. The exhibition, entitled Courtesy Valley Phone, will celebrate the collaboration between Tofer and Freshjive for two 2 t-shirts in their 2011 Spring Collection: “Weekend Warrior” and “Here Comes The Sun.”

Freshjive presents their first full unbranded season for Fall 2010.

With a collection focusing on a unique spin on traditional cut and sew, Freshjive takes it’s first full step into the marketplace as a contemporary menswear line, abandoning it’s 21 year history of streetstyle along with it’s name brand. Filled with cleverly intelligent cut and sew garments and artistic graphic t shirts, FJ Fall 2010 defines itself with looks that are less outspoken and allows the wearer to define them within their own personal style.

Selectism takes a first look at the Freshjive Spring 2011 collection.

The “no-label” Freshjive line makes a significant change in their approach for Spring 2011. The once “street” driven line which has roots in various circles – from streetwear, to skate and surf  - takes a wonderful stroll into new ground that appear more menswear focused, thanks to the help of their new creative director. “Bringing in creative director Mark Wiesmayr, who has worked with Tsubi, Urban Outfitters and Blue Blood, Freshjive is stepping away from its street wear roots, in the direction of a more men’s, designer-contemporary line while maintaining its street culture sensibility… Choosing to move forward without visible name branding, the new Freshjive has a focus on rustic modernism, in both texture and form, celebrating the masculine relationship between avant-garde design and heritage aesthetics.” Welcome.

As you’re all probably well aware, actor Dennis Hopper recently passed away at the age of 74. Rick Klotz comments on his legacy:

Originally making a mark in the 50s alongside James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause and Giant, he will always be remembered to me from the various colorful and unforgettable roles he played throughout his life: The photojournalist in Apocalypse Now, Frank Booth in Blue Velvet, the father in Rumble Fish, Clifford Worley in True Romance, Howard Payne in Speed, and countless others. He also directed the critically acclaimed Colors, and most notably, Easy Rider in 1969 which became the cinematic symbol of the 1960s, and which a film critic once noted that, “No other persona better signifies the lost idealism of the 1960s than that of Dennis Hopper.” Besides acting, Dennis was a prolific photographer, painter, and sculptor, while once known to be one of Hollywood’s most notorious drug addicts for 20 years.

Highlights in the drop include checked shirts, striped pique shirts, cotton shorts and various bold graphic t-shirts including a series of “sexual t shirts that make a mockery of religious symbols.” Again, from this season on, Freshjive will no longer be using their logo or name on any of the product.
