For the second time Eastpak gets together with design studio Quinze & Milan. At the upcoming Salone del Mobile the two will showcase the new range of furniture and bags that they created in collaboration with one another.

The Quinze & Milan Club Sofa 01 and Primary Pouf 02 get the Eastpak remix and are enhanced with a series of pockets, allowing you to store anything from a book and DVDs to your iPad right in your couch. The primary material of use in this second collaboration is washed denim, next to some other material options. Matching bags have been created by Eastpak for this collaborative project.

We have reported about the work of artist/sculptor Ryan McElhinney before. Here we take a look at one of his latest creations – the toy lamp.

“Ryan McElhinney turns trash into unique treasure. The Toy Lamp is made of unwanted toys which are bonded together and then coated in a high gloss polyurethane lacquer.” Via DY.

The lamp is a great alternative to the Philippe Starck gun lamp.

mastermind Japan has gotten together with Building Carre to produce a small capsule collection of furniture. The line consists of a carpet and a series of tables. The tables feature a subtle silver mastermind Japan logo plate. Look out for a release soon.

Despite growing criticism, artist Damien Hirst pushes on with another wave of consumables. “Hirst will sell $425 deck chars at the New York and London Other Criteria Editions stores. The folding chairs — which come in lime-green, yellow, sky-blue, red, orange, and black — have a merpauh frame, a smattering of butterflies across their cloth front, and, of course, a stainless-steel plaque inscribed with Hirst’s signature.”

Curated Mag looks at some artist designed Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chairs. “Curated by Billi Kid and Luna Park, Eames Inspiration brings together iconic design and the creativity of some of the most celebrated graffiti and street artists. The auction benefits Operation Design, an organization which offers public school children, grades K-12, an opportunity to engage directly with arts-based professionals. The auction runs through June 1, 2010, and the re-imagined chairs are on display in the windows of Barney’s 61st Street NY flagship.” Visit Operation Design to bid.

Disney is getting into furniture and while that might be a surprising move from the cartoon empire, we have to admit that we are pleased to see that they at least do it right. Together with high end Italian brand Cappellini, Disney will launch a collection of stools and chairs later this year. Also we are positively surprised that they did not over design the range, at least for the most part.

Best known for his fashion design, Rick Owens has been creating furniture since 2005 already. German publisher Angelika Taschen has known Owens since their years in Los Angeles and now presents his furniture collection for the first time in Germany, during the Berlin Gallery Weekend. Located on the upper floor of iconic store Apartment Berlin, the exhibition showcases several items from the Rick Owens furniture collection, including tables, chairs, lamps, as well as smaller design objects. In his furniture pieces the artist uses a lot of colored plywood, bones and just like his clothing collection, he tends to stick to the darker colors.

We had the chance to check out the exhibition this week and can present you a detailed look at all pieces featured.

After a small preview a couple of weeks ago, we can now after Milan Design Week 2010 give you a more comprehensive look at the Quinze and Milan collection for Eastpak. Materials, as well as looks of the collection were inspired by classic Eastpak backpacks. The outcome is a range of sofas with matching backpacks.
