It is no secret that we really like Garbstore. Looking at first images of the upcoming Fall/Winter ‘08 collection that tendency does also not seem to change any time soon. The term "Unfamiliar Vintage" once again best describes the new collection, which fuses innovative materials and modern interpretations of vintage styles. The Fall/Winter ‘08 collection also seems to be inspired by the outdoors, hunting and outdoor activities in general.
The new collection will be on display at the Capsule Show in Paris end of June.

Frontlineshop was one of the first in Europe to carry brands such as FUCT and XLarge in the beginning of the 90’s. They are still around and have grown to be a powerplayer in the online fashion retailing world.
In the meantime they have created the Selected Department on their site, introducing exactly these brands again, that they start with in the first place and many other of your favorite streetwear brands.
We check it out and made a list of our favorite items that they have at the moment. Check it out here.
Taking inspiration from vintage clothing seems basic on the surface. However, rarely do people push beyond the basic rehashing of old themes and looks. Garbstore is about capturing a feeling in manufacturing and detail. Against the rash of retro style and nostalgic graphic pilfering, this approach is certainly refreshing. It proves the benefits of looking closely at material culture and extracting lessons from that exercise.
Having founded One True Saxon, and helmed R. Newbold and Red Ear in the Paul Smith empire, Ian Paley’s reputation speaks for itself. His experiences, no doubt, have provided him with necessary tools to pick apart aspects of the old and re-imagine them so cleanly. Garbstore is a brand hinged directly on the quality of its product and the joys of making new items.
Ian and I connected over the phone. He was in one capital city (London), and I was in another (DC). We did not talk politics. Read The Interview Here…
Garbstore is by far the most interesting new brand to come out of Europe in recent years. As one of a few, they have created a brand that concentrates on quality and history. Each piece has a story and materials are carefully chosen until they are right. The brand describes its own style as “Unfamiliar Vintage”, and there is not a better word for it.
Here we present you now the Spring/Summer 2008 collection, which is arriving in stores right now. Flight Jackets, Denim Military Jackets, quality knitwear, denim, chinos, shirts, t-shirts and more can be found in the collection. A modern take of vintage pieces. The most simple pieces at first sight, feature lots of details at closer inspection. It is nice exploring fashion again and finding out more about a piece that one bought over the course of time, instead of seeing everything there is to it right away.
As you can see, we are already big fans. Now have a look at the collection after the jump and make up your own mind.
UK brand Garbstore is about to open its first flagship store in London later this month. Here we have first pictures of the store, for now only of the basement, but it’s already looking really good.
In recent years we finally see some brands turning their back on the otherwise mostly Marketing driven fashion market. They return to their core principles of making good product. The interview that we wrote about this morning with Visvim Designer Hiroki Nakamura nicely demonstrated that, and Garbstore is for sure a brand that belongs in the very same category.
More news on the soon to open Garbstore Flagship store London, once we get closer to the opening.

The Garbstore website finally launched. The brand that calls its style “unfamiliar vintage” has presented a really interesting first collection this season. The website gives you some more insight into the brand and they will also launch an online store shortly. You can already check out all the styles. Another interesting thing is, that the online store will carry Garbstore and also Japanese brand Mountain Research, which is pretty much impossible to come by in Europe. Mountain Research is also a very interesting brand, taking each season one theme and entirely dedicating themselves to this theme.

We have presented part of the Garbstore collection a while back and have waited for its release with impatience. Garbstore aspires to be and draws it’s influence from what can be coined Unfamiliar Vintage. Created by former One True Saxon founder Ian Paley, Garbstore is based on Ian’s passion for deadstock vintage clothing. Original fabrics, button details, zips and zip pulls, plantation indigo denim and subtle references pay homage to the craftsmanship tailoring of days past whilst designs and patterns are re-imagined and made into pieces that are ‘historically new’. Look out for subtleties such as US talon zips, 5 needle double neck tees, 3 hole button detailing and pants tailored with 50’s griptape. Hanon has received the Fall/Winter 2007 Collection and its looks great. From a classic shirt, baseball jacket, hunting jacket, denim, t-shirt to a technical shell jacket there is everything in the collection. This might actually be the first European collection that can compete in terms of quality and style with the high end Japanese brands that we report about so regularly.

Located in the heart of Minnesota, Battle Lake Outdoors is dedicated to crafting the highest quality packs and bags for you, the customer. A family-owned business, they have built their reputation on this quality and on the finest in customer service.
Now Garbstore got together with Battle Lake Outdoors, for their first collaboration, on some backpacks.
Garbstore, Ian Paley’s new clothing line is in actual fact a three dimensional creative exercise compromising the men’s wear clothing line, a store as well as the Garbstore website. Ian Paley is the founder & designer of seminal British label One True Saxon, Senior Designer for Paul Smith Jeans, Red-Ear, R.Newbold and Thomas Burberry & Levi’s Strauss. Garbstore aspires to be and draws its influence from what can be coined unfamiliar Vintage. The Vintage references are both obvious and subliminal. This menswear Collection is based on Ian’s passion for casual clothing started to be produced after the Second World War with a more formal quality than before. The sensation of finding dead stock perfect vintage clothing and include some vintage parts or reference points, is one of his rules. All products are made using only vintage union machines and are in terms of their fit reproductions from genuine vintage clothing.
The principles of Garbstore lead them to work with Battle Lake Outdoors to create a series of perfectly crafted, high quality backpacks in a series of colorways. Garbstore will open their London store mid Fall and will launch their website in a couple of weeks. Thus here already a first taste of what there is to come. We are already excited to see where the brand is going and will definitely keep you posted on its progress.
