In this episode of Highsnobiety TV we recap the Hajime Sorayama “1970-2010″ Exhibition in NYC, a retrospective exhibition of the Japanese artist at Gering & Lopez Gallery.

Today the retrospective exhibition of Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama opened at the Gering & Lopez Gallery in New York City. Works by the artist from 1970-2010 are on display and give a great sense of the range of art that the iconic artist has been working on over the course of his career. The show runs until February 19th, so make sure to go by.

We could not think of another band that currently works on a continuous basis in every collection with such a strong line-up of artists.

Later this year Japanese artist Hajime Sorayam will be releasing a new book – Sorayama Masterworks.

“A reference catalog to Sorayama’s rich and highly detailed work, this thorough volume presents many new illustrations and is beautifully printed to showcase his extraordinary talent, wondrous imagination, and impeccable skill.

This thick tome is a reference art book to Sorayama’s rich work including a lot of new illustrations. Printed in high-density and best possible quality his MASTERWORKS

Published by Edition Skylight, the 448 page paperback book will be released September 2010.

The second version of the Original Fake x Hajime Sorayama No Future Companion toy is being released this weekend at the Original Fake store in Tokyo. After previously coming out with a dark black silver version of the metal sculpture, it now comes in a light silver version. So far there is no word yet if the toy will again release on Kawsone, but we will of course keep you posted.

The folks from Sixpack have delivered a short interview with their latest collaborator, Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama. They discuss his inspirations, interest in robots, and get a feel for his artistic process. Read the interview in full here.

Just yesterday we presented you the Kaws Original Fake x Hajime Sorayama No Future Companion toy that will be released this coming weekend. Sixpack France also worked with the Japanese artist on a small capsule collection of t-shirts. Overall they present three collaborative t-shirts, picturing the iconic robot women by the artist. Furthermore they present a nice screen print. The tees are now available at colette.

After showing you the first official picture of the upcoming Kaws Original Fake x Hajime Sorayama No Future Companion this morning, we can now show you some new detailed images of this impressive toy. The details are stocking and you can be sure that the quality of the toy is outstanding. The figure will be released this coming Saturday at Original Fake Tokyo. The artists have worked for almost three years on the figure, to make sure that they are getting it right! We think they sure did!

The much anticipated collaboration of Kaws’ Original Fake label and Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama on the Companion toy has been announced. Finally we get a more detailed look at the 33cm high and 3kg heavy metal toy, which fuses the iconic character of New York artist Kaws and the robotic sculptures of the Japenese artist. You can expect a price point of around 1000 USD. More news on the release very soon.
