Highsnobiety Feature: Edward Toft Of Hanon | Talking Flying Club

highsnobiety - Highsnobiety Feature: Edward Toft Of Hanon | Talking Flying Club
Located in Aberdeen, Scotland, Hanon Shop carries some of the most innovative independent brands on the market, as well as selected product from some of the majors. Beyond that, the store also works to produce collaborative product that is equally innovative to that which stocks the store and website. Their latest has them working again with New Balance on “The Flying Club.”

Based on two of the most famed RAF aircraft, the Tornado and the Spitfire, “The Flying Club,” also brings a third party to the table, Ventile Fabric. A hearty all-weather cotton, Ventile pushes the theme, and keys on the history capture in the design. Just as their are two planes referenced, their are two shoes in the collection.

I had the opportunity to speak with Hanon’s Edward Toft about the sneakers. He shared background on both the design and his memories of New Balance. With the official release coming up this Saturday, September 6th, it seemed like perfect timing.

Hanon Flying Club | Hanon x New Balance x Ventile

highsnobiety - Hanon Flying Club | Hanon x New Balance x Ventile
Once again UK’s Hanon is getting together with New Balance and presenting an impressive project in collaboration with the sneaker brand and Ventile – the Hanon Flying Club.
Entitled The Flying Club, their latest venture is a special release of an archiverunning shoe complete with customised upper. Following their previous collaboration with New Balance, they have looked again to expand the boundaries of materialapplications on some of their favourite running shoes. This time round they
have sourced a superior old school technical fabric by British company Ventile.

Ventile is a densely woven, 100% cotton all weather material. It originated in the 1930’s and  came to prominence during World War II when it was manufactured especially for flying suits due to its unique waterproofing properties. Throughout the years Ventile has developed into a superior performance fabric and as well as a continued military association it has provided technical outerwear for explorers such as Sir Ranulph Fiennes during expeditions of Mount Everest and the Antarctic.

The Flying Club harks back to the early New Balance silhouettes of yester year.Comprising of two models, each one has a customised upper and features detailing that is unique only to this release. They have drawn influence from the simple aesthetic of the 70’s and 80’s styles and reintroduced some of the old school touches they felt would reflect and compliment the heritage of Ventile.

Both the Ventile fabric and footwear are made in the United Kingdom and assembled with the finest materials sourced worldwide. Special features include a single piece N, bound and unbagged vintage mesh tongue, aged EVA midsole unit, bespoke tongue label, old school cotton laces and original polyurethane collar lining.
The outcome is the M670 Tornado and the M670 Spitfire. Each shoe is limited to 150 pieces worldwide. Hanon is looking for a release towards the end of August. We will keep you posted on the release.
Now head on after the jump to get a detailed look at both models.

Fila Vintage Collection

07 March 2008, 13.15 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

RTEmagicC fila vintage.jpg Fila Vintage Collection
The late 70’s and early 80’s was an era where ‘luxury sports’ gained huge TV audiences. To wear expensive fabrics, simple elegant designs and fashionable cuts was far more important than bland functional apparel that may enhance your game. This was an era when Fila redifined sportswear  with an injection of colour and signature design.
The Fila vintage collection is an authentic range of key styles selected from past garments and reproduced with finite detail. Emphasis has been placed on reproducing the original fabrics, replicating the seam and piping detail. Woven badges carry the exact stitching patterns , thread colour, edging width  and flexibility. Zip pulls also have the original enamel logo-pulls. Soon to arrive at hanon-shop are a range of Fila Vintage track tops and polo shirts with a look and feel straight from the 80’s.

Garbstore F/W ‘07 Collection Launched

27 September 2007, 20.48 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

RTEmagicC garbstore 1.jpg Garbstore F/W 07 Collection Launched
We have presented part of the Garbstore collection a while back and have waited for its release with impatience. Garbstore aspires to be and draws it’s influence from what can be coined Unfamiliar Vintage. Created by former One True Saxon founder Ian Paley, Garbstore is based on Ian’s passion for deadstock vintage clothing. Original fabrics, button details, zips and zip pulls, plantation indigo denim and subtle references pay homage to the craftsmanship tailoring of days past whilst designs and patterns are re-imagined and made into pieces that are ‘historically new’. Look out for subtleties such as US talon zips, 5 needle double neck tees, 3 hole button detailing and pants tailored with 50’s griptape.
Hanon has received the Fall/Winter 2007 Collection and its looks great. From a classic shirt, baseball jacket, hunting jacket, denim, t-shirt to a technical shell jacket there is everything in the collection. This might actually be the first European collection that can compete in terms of quality and style with the high end Japanese brands that we report about so regularly.
Check out more pieces of the new collection after the jump.

Hanon x New Balance M576 Vault

03 September 2007, 19.38 | Posted in Sneakers | No comments »

vault Hanon x New Balance M576 Vault
The original hanon M576 is back! This is the first ever hanon x New Balance designed and released in 2004.

Assembled at New Balance’s renowned UK Flimby factory, their first collaboration featured the classic M576 running shoe remixed with a combination of suede, full grain leather and airflow mesh. They released two styles to an edition of 196 pairs, each featuring notable details such as a contrast white saddle and the now familiar gold ‘N.

What is the Vault and what was up with the green colourway?

Initially they designed 3 colourways but due to some difficulty meeting factory minimums, one unfortunately had to go. Reluctantly the green was dropped and only the navy and red were manufactured. However New Balance Japan liked the style so much they took up the production of the green colourway and the shoe was released as a special edition in the Far East. Upon its launch, sneaker heads across the globe quickly picked up on the 3rd model, and although never an official hanon release – was out there. The secret colourway!

The Vault.

The Vault includes their ’stash’ and a short run of the green model from the allocated release. All three can now be released as the original pack and the green ones are back home! The release took place this Saturday – if you are interested you gotta hurry up.
Check out pictures of all three after the jump.
