Highsnobiety Shoots – Hot In The City by Photographer Noah Ritter

With the sweltering days of summer upon the city of New York, there’s really only one way to keep cool, by taking it to the street. In the tradition of famed street photographers Martha Cooper and Jamel Shabazz, Brooklyn based shooter Noah Ritter used only film with no retouching to capture the annual NYC tradition of moving the party to the stoops, corners and backyards when it’s literally too hot to be anywhere else. Shot in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn on the dominoe hot block of Macon between Malcolm X and Patchen, this is the epitome of “Hot in the City” with a Dominican twist.

Highsnobiety Feature – 25 Years of FTC

FTC FEATURE MAIN PAGE Highsnobiety Feature 25 Years of FTC

In our latest feature, we catch up with Kent Uyehara of San Francisco label FTC to discuss their first 25 years in business.

1966 San Francisco was a trippy time and place. Flower children were protesting the war in Vietnam, hippies were dropping acid in Golden Gate Park and a Japanese businessman named Lloyd Uyehara had just opened a high-end ski and tennis distribution business called Free Trade Center or FTC at the corner of Bush and Franklin in the Van Ness Avenue corridor downtown. This unlikely set of circumstances laid the groundwork for what would become, more than half a century later, one of the most influential skateboard retail brands of all time.

Highsnobiety Feature: The Hundreds x Garfield

Set for a December 2, 2010 release worldwide, California label The Hundreds have joined forces with Jim Davis and the Garfield gang for a collaborative collection. Sticking with the collectible nature of Garfield product, the capsule encompasses a full range of The Hundreds gear – from graphics t-shirts and New Era caps to skate decks and footwear – plus a bunch of other novelty items, such as vinyl toys, pillow and mugs. Working with the 1980s’ styling of the cartoon, The Hundreds were able to capture a classic sentimental spirit that many of us who grew up in that era can relate to.

For our latest Highsnobiety Feature, we spoke with The Hundreds founder and creative director, Bobby Hundreds, about the nature of the project, the process behind some of the work and what he learned working with Jim Davis. He also provided us with an exclusive, detailed first look at The Hundreds x Garfield product.

Read what Bobby had to say and have a detailed look at The Hundreds x Garfield collection here.

Berlin’s best kept secret, the Michelberger Hotel, was the location of the shoot, offering a perfect setting for the concept of the shoot.
