Video: Ice Cube Celebrates The Eames

Pacific Standard Time is an unprecedented collaboration of cultural institutions across Southern California coming together to celebrate the birth of the L.A. art scene. In this new video segment, Ice Cube celebrates The Eames for Pacific Standard Time.

“Ice Cube drives Inglewood blvd. describing the Los Angeles that he knows. He talks of landmarks like The Forum, Five Torches, Cockatoo Inn, Brolly Hut, and Watts Towers. He refers to the 110 as “Gangsta Highway”. Cube says coming from South Central LA teaches you how to be resourceful. The video cuts to Cube walking the Eames House perimeter, through the Eames living room, and sitting in the Eames lounge chair. He brings us back to his NWA years when he studied architectural drafting before launching his rap career. One thing he learned that translates is to always have a plan. Cube describes the modern, green and resourceful building design of Charles and Ray Eames. Visionaries of connecting nature and structure. Cube ends by saying “Who are these people who got a problem with LA? Maybe they mad cuz they don’t live here.”"

Check out the video below, as Ice Cube drives through Los Angeles and visits The Eames House.

No Mas NYC x Ice Cube - "Straight Outta LA" Animation and "LA Raiders" Bags

Sports inspired brand No Mas NYC worked on an interesting project. Together with Ice Cube they created the animation for the documentary “Straight Outta LA”, which will air on ESPN tonight at 8pm.

“”Straight Outta LA” gets into that sweet spot of sports and culture: NWA, The LA Raiders, gangster rap and actual gangs, starter jackets, corduroy hats, Lester Hayes, Rod Martin, Marcus Allen, The LA riots, and the madman/genius Left Coast Steinbrenner of football–Al Davis. This is about as interesting as pro football can get.” (Chris Isenberg of No Mas.

Also No Mas worked on a bag, which is produced from an original Starter LA Raiders jacket. The bag is now available in their online store.

Take a look at some further stills of the animation, as well as the bags after the jump.
