In an effort to promote the new Renault Twingo, the French car maker has teamed up with a couple of creatives to produce one off editions of the car. Here we take a closer look at the Renault Twingo 55 FBG by French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.

Playfully imaginative, but always elegant, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac casts the eye of a ‘Republican artist’ on New Twingo inventing for it a Presidential destiny… whereby Twingo, that most democratic of cars, assumes the mantle of the Republic..

The car includes period furniture, candelabras and polished parquet flooring. A nod to the sumptuous luxury of the Elysées, complemented by its matt black bodyshell and white rimmed tyres.

The look fo the car’s interior could certainly not be more French and the drastic contrast between interior and exterior is definitely interesting.

LAQ has teamed up with French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac on their latest furniture creation. The table ‘Mingskatable’ is “born from the clash between the history of the Chinese Ming furniture, the ancien Art of lacquering and the urban culture, the table Mingskatable evokes at the same time, the Golden Age of the Chinese furniture with its sandal red base and the “street culture”.”

Made from 7 layers of maple wood, the table comes in an edition of only 8 pieces.

We present a piece from the upcoming collaboration between Kipling and French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, aka JCDC. The backpack comes in black with a multicolor skeleton graphic all over. The brand, together with the colors, results in a real early 90s look of the pack. Look out for a release this Fall/Winter 2011 season.

In his latest release “Time Track,” French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac (JCDC) instills a number of military design elements into a series of timepieces, yet with his usual humorous, surprising approach.

The straps resemble the tracks of a war tank; the case takes the form and details of a shield, with the dial and hand design like that of a military compass; last but not least, there are grips at the dial and four corners of the case for ultimate protection.

A military themed packaging box is designed especially for this collection. The Time Track piece is placed nicely in the middle of this metal case resembling a box for military equipments (see below), with details such as the studs and clasps for ultimate security.

Available now, in 5 colorways, through Watchismo.

Today we take a first look at the upcoming JC/DC by Jean Charles de Castelbajac Spring/Summer 2011 Collection, entitled “celluloid Heroes and Radiant Kids”. As usual the eccentric French designer keeps it very colorful and incorporates yet another iconic comic character into his collection. From simple slogan t-shirts and sweaters, to knitwear, shirts and accessories, the designer presents a full collection. The Cobrasnake also appears in the lookbook shoot.

Next to opening his new flagship store in Paris, fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac also recently opened an art exhibition at La B.A.N.K. in Paris. The artist mixes classic art with logos and brands, adds Disney characters to them and basically shows on canvas what we are usually used to see from him on the catwalk. The exhibition runs until October 23rd.

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac recently remixed the equestrian statue of Henri IV on Pont Neuf in Paris. Entitled “Astronomy Domine”, the installation celebrates the 400th anniversary of his death with a blue Lightsaber and a white neon box. The installation with remain up until July 14.

Commenting on the collaboration Mr de Castelbajac stated “Gola is a British legend; Millions of kids in the world have been walking into their future wearing Gola sneakers. French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac is never shy to use lots of color and pop references in his collections. We have seen him work with a Lego theme and many others, for Spring/Summer 2010 he once again returns to an iconic comic character. We present you the JC-DC Donald Duck t-shirts. They come in two colorways and Donald Duck has been placed on the front of the tees with large square pallettes. The tees are now available at colette.

Celebrated French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac launches his first ever watch collection collaborating with odm. Entitled JCDC Pop Hours, the watches use LEGO-like bricks over a total of six colorways – black, white, bright green, blue, yellow and red. Packaging takes the form of a Rubik’s cube further highlighting the designer’s penchant for colorful smart-kid toys.

T-Shirt brand Hype Means Nothing gets together for a collaboration with French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. They made a name for themselves featuring iconic cartoon characters and pop icons on their t-shirts and now went a step further by doing an actual photoshoot with the designer for the upcoming t-shirt. The t-shirt will be released on June 29th at the JCDC concept store in Paris in limited quantities.

Last week the first solo exhibition of fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac opened its doors at Paradise Row in London.

“Paradise Row proudly presents the first solo show of Jean Charles de Castelbajac. Throughout his ground breaking career as a fashion designer, Castelbajac has employed a strategy of ‘cultural hijacking’ – the appropriation, recycling and synthesis of images, signs, symbols and styles from both popular culture and high art to create still newer designs and visions. In keeping with his openness to the ever-shifting world of contemporary visual culture, Castelbajac has collaborated with artists including Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Bettina Rheims and Loulou Picasso.

In Triumph of the Sign, Castelbajac presents a series of paintings that articulate his fascination with, broadly, the tensions and synergies between high art and consumer culture, and most specifically that defining element of contemporary visual culture – the brand logo. In a process that mirrors the production of mass-consumer goods, Castelbajac commissioned painters in China to perfectly reproduce a series of Western masterpieces, from Bronzino to Manet, and another group to paint logos on the surfaces of the copied masterpieces. The resulting works ironically embrace a flattening of hierarchies, a breakdown of distinctions and an evacuation of content.” Via Yatzer.
