Junya Watanabe Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

As you all know, we are big fans of Junya Watanabe and today we get a first detailed look at the Japanese designers Spring/Summer 2010 Collection. The designer summed up the line with the word “snob”, which could of course not be more fitting.

“…perky variations of essentially one look: fitted plaid jacket, crisp and preppy shirt, cropped or cuffed pants and upper-crust accessories: ascots, pocket squares and small-brimmed hats. To the soothing melodies of Serge Gainsbourg, out strolled jackets – enough to outfit many a Scottish golf club – while a new collaboration with Mackintosh yielded handsome beige trench coats or parkas in vivid blues and forest greens. Suppressing his penchant for tricky, transforming garments – save for the odd hood attached to blazers – Watanabe turned snobbery into an approachable and stylish collection.”

We like the collection a lot. Our favorites include the Mackintosh collaboration trench coats, as well as the blazer turned technical jackets. Only very few stronger colors are used in the line, while the rest of it sticks to classic colors and looks. Another thing that we appreciate a lot is that one can actually wear most of the line, something that you cannot say about many collections shown on the runway.

Many more images of the Junya Watanabe Spring/Summer 2010 Collection follow after the jump.

The Spring 2009 deliveries are approaching fast, therefore we will start previewing some of the menswear collections that we enjoy the most. One of those was once again the upcoming Junya Watanabe collection.

“…Junya’s take on travelers initially suggested old colonials, decked out in Panama hats, collar-and-tie, jackets and Bermuda shorts, saddle shoes, and Argyle socks. And lugging huge, bruising suitcases, to boot (undoubtedly containing a Bible). But then the world of Watanabe literally flipped, as models doffed their navy blazers, reversed them, and returned in a khaki safari jacket, say, or something in gingham with a zip.” Via Men.Style.

We enjoy the mix of safari wear, work wear and even smart styles that remind of Thom Browne. There are lots of dressy shorts in the collection, long pants are in general rolled up. The blazers certainly stand out and the overall look works very well. Next seasons collaborators include Brooks Brothers, Levi’s, Lacoste and new this season also Baracuta. As usual something to look out for.

Take a detailed look at the Junya Watanabe Spring 2009 collection after the jump.

Coming as part of their Fall/Winter 2008 collection, Junya Watanabe Comme Des Garcons presents a great interpretation of the classic varsity jacket. Ever since we saw it on the runway show images we were intrigued. Basically they fused the varsity jacket and the blazer. The 1500 USD pricetag is of course a shocker, but you definitely get something special, that you can wear for many years. Via men.style.com.
