Here Comes the Neighborhood has rolled out this video showcasing one of its participants, Kenny Scharf. The video clips shows Scharf as he prepares for the upcoming event at the Wynwood Walls during Art Basel in Miami. Kenny gets deep in this one, so be sure to check it out.

While most of the news pertaining to art is emanating out of Miami at the moment, Los Angeles has offered a follow-up to this year’s monumental Art in the Streets exhibit. Done in collaboration with Vanity Fair and Cadillac, and in partnership with the MOCA and the City of West Hollywood, this murals project at the WeHo Library features works from Shepard Fairey, Kenny Scharf and Retna. Although this was unveiled back in October, it seems to have went under the radar, so we figured we would share some news in regards to it. Be sure to check the video featuring the artists involved below, as well as some images in our gallery.

After the trailer the other week, we today present the first episode of the ‘Here Comes The Neighborhood’ documentary series.

In the first episode of HERE COMES THE NEIGHBORHOOD the stage is set for the Wynwood Arts District. Parking lots, loading docks and factory walls are transformed into “The Wynwood Walls”. Founder Tony Goldman explains his vision for a town center, while Jeffrey Deitch, Arts Manager Meghan Coleman and Co-Curator Medvin Sobio offer their insight into the project’s significance, taking us into the present day expansion. In addition, Photographer Martha Cooper and Miami based Mural Project Primary Flight weigh in.

Participating artists: Kenny Scharf, Shepard Fairey, Kunle Martins (Earsnot), Gaia, Shie Moreno, and Patrick McNeal from the artist collective Faile.

Featuring Original Music from: Hanni El Khatib, Ducky, Tommy Mas and Clams Casino.

Kenny Scharf is the latest artist to work an ephemeral mural at Houston and Bowery. He follows the Keith Haring tribute (fitting, as Scharf was a close friend of Haring’s), Os Gemeos, Shepard Fairey, and Barry McGee.

This weekend we checked out the latest progression of the mural, which looks to be turning out quite impressive.

We report about the opening about the new Hot Glue Hullabaloo Exhibition at The Hole NYC, a collaborative exhibition between Kenny Scharf and art collective Dearraindrop. They joined forced to create paintings, sculptures and a mini blacklight disco, resulting in an overall interesting set of works.

The Stages 09 exhibition, a collaborative effort between Nike Sportswear and Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong foundation, will open for the last time its doors in Miami next month, during Art Basel Miami. After previously being shown in Paris and New York, the impressive list of artists that worked on special pieces for the show is back one more time. Cerealart, the Philadelphia gallery of artist multiples, is selling ceramic sculptures by pop artist Kenny Scharf that also function as bongs. Available in limited editions of white, purple, green or orange, and one-of-a-kind hand painted ones, each is stamped signed on the bottom.

We have always been big fans of artist Kenny Scharf and his playful/colorful work. Recently his latest exhibition, Barberadise, opened at Honor Fraser in Los Angeles and we can give you a detailed first look at the works.

” Honor Fraser Gallery was filled with groovy, brightly colored florescent paintings and sculptures from the legendary Pop artist. Continuing with his mission of penetrating the boundaries of fine art through the use and reference of popular culture, Scharf’s paintings features characters from the Hanna-Barbera universe, mainly The Flinstones and The Jetsons.”

In an interesting new collaboration premium Swiss watch brand Movado got together with contemporary artist Kenny Scharf on a series of watches.

“Scharf took the iconic Nathan George Horwitt-designed, Bauhaus-inspired Museum Watch and illustrated the dials with his signature aesthetic. There are six watches in all that were produced in limited runs. There are 25 limited edition box sets that will retail at Movado stores for $3,495, starting next month. In addition, 100 limited edition pieces of each style will be sold for $695.”

We have always been big fans of New York based pop artist Kenny Scharf. Just recently we showed you the Trek bike that the artist designed for Lance Armstrong. Today we get a look inside his studio, actually the space just below his studio. The artist created a colorful world of objects, paintings and more that create an environment similar to his paitings.

“On the floor below his studio he had created this insane space thats like walking into one of his sculptures.” – Kaws.

A while ago we showed you the art bikes by Kaws and Barry McGee for Lance Armstrong. Today we can give you a look at the next two bikes, this time created by Shepard Fairey and Kenny Scharf for the Giro d’Italia 2009.

The Giro d’Italia is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009 and it is actually the first time that Lance Armstrong is participating. On July 16th the Nike backed “Stages” art show will open in Paris at Gallerie Emmanuel Perrotin and to draw some attention to the event these two new art bikes have been created.

“Getting up on Lance’s “daily driver” Trek Madone road bike, Shepard Fairey created a vibrant homage to Lance’s cancer fighting foundation while including ancient patterning in homage of Italy’s rich architectural details. NYC Pop Art legend Kenny Scharf took a totally different approach to Lance’s Trek TTX time trial cycle and created the “lightspeed” space bike that will hopefully hurtle Tex across the finish line in record time. Both bikes will be auctioned off on October 2nd (10/2 marks the date of Lance’s original cancer diagnosis) at the NYC stop of the “Stages” art tour with all proceeds going to benefit Livestrong.” Via Supertouch.

The Lance Armstrong “Stages” Project continues to draw in high profile artists, resulting in interesting pieces of work. You can be sure ther is a lot more to come.
