In 2012 Stone Island will be celebrating its 30th anniversary. Having started in 1982 with just one fabric in six colors, the brand never stopped to innovate and is today doing better than every before. During Pitti Uomo Summer 2012, they will be hosting a show and a retrospective showcasing the brand’s vast archive and key areas. Furthermore they will be releasing a book for its 30th anniversary, featuring 300 iconic images. The book will release June/July 2012.

Of course there will also be special product for the occasion. One of three specials, we can already show you today – the Reflective Knit.

“Transferring technology from fabric to yarn, the ultimate in Stone Island research. Created using a Reflective yarn, built with micro plates covered with thousands of glass microspheres enclosed in a polyester net, printed using pressure/heat sublimation to melt the fibers and get an even surface with a jersey and high performance Windstopper® liner.”

For several seasons uniform experiment has been working on quality knitwear with John Smedley. As part of their Fall/Winter 2011 Collection they have just released a new range, featuring printed crewnecks, crewnecks, cardigans and turtleneck styles. Each style comes in several colorways, featuring the uniform experiment logo on the back.

This new piece of knitwear from the Martin Margiela 10 Fall/Winter 2011 Collection best shows what we love most about the collection – the interesting twists and smart details.

“A rich wool blend sweater featuring a contrast bib made from cable knit cotton fabric. This amazing piece of knitwear draws inspiration from classic cricket v-necks but gives it a subversive twist by being made from two different fabrics and textures.”

This season in comes in two colorways, both available now from Por Vocacao.

Dr. Romanelli presents the first release from his Fall/Winter 2011 ‘Another Summit’ Collection, once again exclusively produced for Barneys Japan. The release consists of knit cardigans, featuring an interesting range of all-over patterns, enhanced with leather shawl collars and front pockets. The choice is wide, so you can be sure that there is a pattern that speaks to everybody.

If there is one thing that you can always count on with the Japanese brands, then it is their drive to only work with the best. For Fall/Winter 2011 Sophnet has gotten together with Canadian Sweater Company on a zip-up Cowichan sweater and matching vest. Both pieces have been hand knitted in Canada, only using natural fibres, and will be released this season in each two colorways.

Today we present the latest collection of London knitwear brand Sibling. Knitwear is one of those areas in fashion that hardly ever gets enough attention. What we love most about it, is the fact that simple details and quality improvements can make a huge difference. Also, unlike a lot of other product, knitwear seems to be more timeless. Sibling takes an interesting approach, mixing bold pieces with more classic ones, yet always going the extra step to set themselves apart from everybody else. Interesting patterns, bold embroideries, leather details and sometimes also crazy pieces, such as a knitted panda mask find their way into their collections, not forgetting the fun in design. It looks like they also worked with Pure Evil and Cassette Playa on some pieces for their Collection 6.

Monsieur Lacenaire is a new French brand specializing in high end knitwear. A while back we had the chance to check them out live and were impressed right away.

“The designer Garance Broca, who worked at Hermes for three years, took her knowledge to make knitwear that’s classic and subtly subversive. Which means they’ve got knitted varsities’ (like the one you see above), cardigans with plackets that turn into scarves and other little twists that show off a slight edge in knitting know how. Made in the same factories she visited during her time in Hermes, the collection uses Alpaca (both regular and the baby kind) and Italian merino for the wools, making everything in France.”

The best piece in the collection was the knitted varsity jacket, which you see on the above image.

This weekend the first product releases for the new Spring/Summer 2011 season are coming from uniform experiment. Next to the beautiful above tote bag, the brand is releasing some solid knitwear, as well as beautiful light weight scarves. We are not sure it was very smart of them to use the tricolor design on some of their items. Even though it might not be owned by Moncler and Thom Browne, in the fashion circus it is certainly associated with them. Otherwise the releases look really nice and are certainly something to be looking out for.

CASH CA will be releasing some nice new kitwear from their Pre-Spring 2011 Collection. Both cardigans and crewneck sweaters are part of the release, which mostly plays with striped patterns with nice refreshing, yet not too bold, color accents.

To celebrate its 75th anniversary, Barbour will be releasing a Steve McQueen Collection. The line consists of jackets, t-shirts, as well as knitwear and is directly inspired by vintage photographs of him racing his motorcycle and relaxing in his spare time. Look out for a release later this year.
