After a successful run in Detroit, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Alex Melamid’s "Holy Hip-Hip!" rolls west to Los Angeles. His work takes 12 famed hip-hop figures and presents them in old master style. 

Doesn’t another guy do that? Yes, indeed, Kehinde Wiley is the poster boy of hip-hop portraiture. While Wiley is frequent visitor to hip-hop subject matter, Melamid’s work focuses just on this set. Still, the comparisons are bound to continue as "Holy Hip-Hop!" continues to show. While on subject, read a review of Wiley’s latest work (from the New York Times), here. After previous releases of the "Silverlake" Regional Tee and the "Tokyo" Regional Tee, you will see today the release of the "Los Angeles" Regional Tee. The t-shirt will only be released at Undefeated LA, today, September 6th.

Over the years we have become used to seeing people cue for product, sneakers, collections launches and other things, but we can safely say, that we have never seen anything like the opening of the new Johnny Cupcakes store in Los Angeles.
The Hundreds did a good job documenting the opening, from the store itself to the VIP tent, the cuing and the arrival of Johnny.
Congrats to Johnny for the new store, hopefully we can visit it soon! If you have time, visit it on Melrose.

Now that A Bathing Ape is operating a NYC and LA store, they came out with two winter plaid New Era Caps, featuring the local favorite MLB team on the caps. The caps are now available at Cliff Edge.

Huf is about to release the "LA" and "SF" New Era caps. Since they recently opened a store in Los Angeles you can expect more "LA"product in the coming months. Hopefully we can soon show you some better images.

Long in the making, the new Johnny Cupcakes store on Melrose in Los Angeles now finally has a fixed opening date. The new store marks the second store overall of the brand, the first being in Boston.
The Los Angeles retail market certainly seems healthy, with a new store opening up almost weekly. Just in recent weeks we have seen Huf, Upper Playground, Bape and now also Johnny Cupcakes.

Huf managed really well to keep this under the wraps. Their new LA store is opening tomorrow, May 31rst on North Fairfax. Once again a welcome addition to theLA retail landscape. Via Crazy Steez Yo.

Here is the first sneak peek of the Johnny Cupcakes LA shoppe. They are working closely with a company that builds, fabricates and engineers various things for Disney Land/World, Universal Studios as well as other international artists + architects.
Once again they proof to understand how to put their brand in the spotlight and how to communicate with their customer in a way that is memorable. The store is supposed to open next month – we will keep you posted. Now watch the teaser video here below.

The Bape LA store opens this week and last night they celebrated the occasion of the opening. Lots of celebrities showed up, including N.E.R.D., Nigo, Takashi Murakami, Mike Tyson, Dr. Romanelli and many more.
