Leica presents a new special edition version of the successful D-Lux line: the Leica D-Lux 5 Titanium. The 10.1 megapixel compact camera comes with a silver-grey styling and the high-quality materials used further reinforce its refined appearance. It will be available from October 2011 and will come together with a premium titanium-colored leather case and the latest Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® professional image-processing software.

The special edition features the same advanced technical specifications of the standard model Leica D-Lux 5. An ideal tool for a wide variety of photographic opportunities, the D-Lux 5 Titanium incorporates a fast zoom lens with a focal length range from 24 to 90 mm (35 mm equivalent focal length).

With a wide viewing angle and 460,000 pixel resolution, the camera monitor displays extremely high quality images both before and after capture. Clearly laid-out functions and straightforward operation of its comprehensive range of features and manual settings ensure intuitive handling of the camera in all photographic situations, from creative image design to spontaneous spur-of-the-moment shots, or when using the 720 pixel HD video function.

The Leica D-Lux 5 Titanium’s offerings are expanded by a range of optional accessories. The Leica EVF1 electronic viewfinder is particularly useful when shooting under extreme lighting conditions. Leica Camera Japan has announced a new limited edition M9-P in silver and red leather. Packaged with a Leica Elmarit M 28mm f/2.8 ASPH lens and red leather trimming, the camera will only be available only through the Futago Tamagawa Leica store in Tokyo. Limited to 30 pieces.

In an interesting collaboration, Leica has produced a limited edition version of the V-LUX 30 camera with Japanese designer Kunio Okawara for Isetan Men’s Residence. “Kunio Okawara is a mechanical designer in the Japanese anime industry. A mechanical designer is similar to a character designer, but the design is for robots, ships, and other mechanical items found in a particular show. Okawara was the first in the industry to be specifically credited as a mechanical designer.” Gundam is just one of the things that he has worked on in the past.

Leica has announced the M9-P rangefinder camera, an ultra-discreet version of their popular M9. Featuring the same compact size, full-frame, 18 megapixel sensor, sophisticated image processing and robust construction of the Leica M9, the M9-P adds a touch of minimalist styling.

The red dot logo and M9 lettering on the front have been omitted and replaced with the Leica name in classic script form engraved on the top plate. The body is finished with vulcanite leatherette, while the LCD screen includes a scratch-resistant, sapphire crystal covering.

The M9-P is compatible with nearly every Leica M lens produced since the line’s introduction in 1954 and will be available from Leica dealers in two different finishes, black paint or traditional silver chrome, beginning July 2011.

Even though the Leica M9-P has not yet been officially announced, the first limited edition version is already out. Created to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Leica Ginza store in Tokyo, 100 Hammertone cameras have been produced and include an Elmarit M F2.8/28mm ASPH lens. The standard issue Leica M9-P will be released June 21, 2011.

Leica Camera has announced the V-Lux 30, a 15.1 megapixel compact digital camera. In comparison to the V-Lux 20, the new camera has a 16x zoom Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens with an extended range of focal lengths, a new LCD touch screen display, integrated GPS function and video recording in 1080i-AVCHD Full HD. The Leica V-Lux 30 will be available from Leica dealers beginning June 2011, making for an ideal summer companion.

Of note: this camera is nearly identical to the much cheaper Panasonic ZS10.

With Hiroshi Fujiwara being such a big Leica fan, this upcoming collaboration between his brand uniform experiment and the German high end camera maker comes with no surprise. The D-Lux 5 comes as a special uniform experiment edition, featuring a few logo placements on the upper, as well as a matching leather camera case, also featuring embossed logo placements. The camera is supposed to release in Japan on May 11th, limited to 200 pieces.

What are the chances of an Apple x Leica collab? Perhaps closer than we think. The Leica i9 for iPhone 4 is a conceptual project that works to combine two iconic products, while addressing the key design elements of both brands. “It’s common practice to combine a smart phone with a digital camera, but how do you combine a great smart phone with a great digital camera when you brands may speak to very different categories?” BLACK Design Associates seem to think they have the answer with the Leica i9. We think it’s an amazing idea and would love to see these put into production.

Munich retailer Harvest initiated an interesting collaboration for Holiday 2010. They linked up with Leica and asked local brand akindofguise to produce leather camera straps for the X1 and V-Lux 20, which they now offer as a special Harvest Edition Pack in store. Furthermore they invited 5 photographers to take pictures with the X1 and will be launching the product with a vernissage this coming Thursday, December 9th.

Only released a little while ago, Leica is about to introduce the first collaborative limited edition version of its D-Lux 5 camera, in cooperation with Red Bull Illume.

“Leica are to produce a special Red Bull Illume limited edition of their exciting new D-Lux 5 premium compact camera as a tribute to their involvement with the world’s biggest action sports photography competition.

Finished in matt black design with silver colored Red Bull Illume engraving, the camera’s sophisticated features, super fast lens and potential for creative on-the-spot photography make it a perfect fit for action sports photographers and amateurs looking for a portable solution.

The “Red Bull Illume Limited Edition” is the first ever camera made by Leica to be dedicated to a photography award.

These specially handcrafted, meticulously manufactured special editions are only made by Leica to mark historical occasions and are always produced in very limited numbers. Only 250 cameras have been produced, a number specially selected to honor the 250 photographs featured in the Red Bull Illume Photobook.”

It looks like the real difference is only the engraved Red Bull Illume logo. Some more added features would have been nice to set the camera apart from its in-line models. The camera is priced at 699 Euros and will release soon in the Red Bull online store.

Leica presents yet another limited edition version of their M9 flagship digital camera. This time they worked with retailer Neiman Marcus. The camera comes with a chrome finish and brown oestrich leather upper and matching oestrich leather strap. The camera will release soon and retails for 17′500 USD. Via LR.

Famous Parisian boutique and concept store L’Eclaireur is celebrating its 30th anniversary next month. For the occasion they teamed up with Gilles Ouaki and Leica, to produce a limited edition of their X1 digital camera. The camera is signed by Ouaki and the store, and features red leather details. Only limited to 30 pieces, the camera will be released on October 14th.
