Levi Strauss & Co. invented blue jeans, and has driven their evolution from workwear to everywhere. Levi’s® Vintage Clothing reaches into the rich history of denim to reveal and relive pieces of the past. For Fall/Winter 09, with the theme of Inside/Out, Levi’s® explores the cold, hard life of the convict.

This season’s collection has been inspired by the uniform of the prisoner. After black and white stripes, and before orange jumpsuits, denim was the preferred fabric for institutional life. During the 1920s and 1930s, overalls, white vests and T-shirts, sack coats, and chambray shirts all found their way inside.

The Inside/Out collection draws on the experiences, history, and struggles of serving time, while keeping an eye on the freedom beyond the walls.

A couple of days ago we presented you part of the new Levi’s Vintage Fall/Winter 2008 collection, which we liked a lot. Today we came across some more strong pieces of the new line, that we wanted to share with you.
Hanon got in the 1950 Shorthorn Shirt, 1910 Sunset Wool Shirt and the 1950’s Wool Shirt Jacket. All three are great pieces in high quality with lots of attention to detail, that you can wear until they break down.

The new Levi’s Vintage Fall/Winter 2008 collection has landed at Manchester’s Oi Polloi and we love what we are seeing. We cannot recall the last time we were as excited about a Levi’s Vintage collection.

The new collection presents not only Vintage 505’s and 501’s, but presents some nice quality clothing pieces. Our favorites are the check and wool shirts and especially the 1923 Mackinaw Coat and 1912 Sweater Coat. Great details on all pieces, premium materials make this a strong collection.

For Fall, Levi’s vintage is sticking to the basics. Heavy work shirts. Shirt jackets. Thick durable 10-wale cords. There is also the Oldest Oldest jean. The wool check shirt jacket is particularly interesting with unconstructed suit styling and a three leather buttons. Look for the complete fall collection from Hanon. 

The newest piece to grace the Levi Strauss archives is also probably the oldest. Dated back to 1875, this precious pair of denim waist overalls was discovered in a nevada mining town. Made with 9 ounce denim from the Amoskeag mill in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The precious original pair, nicknamed the Oldest Oldest now resides in a fireproof safe in the Levi Strauss Archives in San Francisco.
