In an interesting collaboration Barcelona’s Limiteditions got together with Lacoste to bring back their Indiana High, a high top tennis sneaker. An image of the original sneaker is also here above. They kept it classic and even gave the sneaker a little vintage look, but nothing too extreme. Nice branding is placed on the side panels, heel and the Limiteditions logo has been embossed on the tongue. As part of the collaboration, the Indiana High comes in two colorways and will be released in October.

The signature shoe of several time world tennis champion, and still legendary George ‘Rod’ Laver, the adidas Rod Laver has been a mainstay for the brand, and now a central part of the Originals range since its 1970 launch. The key to its success? Utter simplicity. In line with court decorum and regulations of the era, the famous 3-Stripes were shorn for this shoe, and the purity of the Rod Laver set something of a standard for sneaker design – the move to pare down the corporate identity and let the silhouette do the talking is a landmark move too.

Beyond favourite colour combinations like the traditional white and green, the material mix of leather and mesh kept things breathable and lightweight without compromising looks. This bare bones approach gave the shoe an ageless quality. A follow-up, wider, chunkier in the sole and with added midsole and heel branding became another icon and a worldwide Summer standard, notably deified in NYC as the timeless hot weather choice.

Almost forty years after the original design’s introduction, it’s back in a tweaked form, retaining its iconic classicism for an ambitious adidas Originals Consortium project.  Nine global Consortium partners, each famed for their innovative approach to retail, were given the Rod Laver to rework with their choice of colours, fabrics and more for release in extremely limited numbers at Consortium stores throughout August and September 2009.

We present you the first drop of the project, consisting of collabortions with DQM, Undefeated, Limiteditions and VA.

Uniting the world’s finest sneaker stores, the Consortium 3WAY project from adidas celebrates the brands 60 year anniversary with a brand-new approach to the collaborative process.

By bringing together a handpicked crop of 12 global retail figureheads, all given full freedom to do whatever they want with 5 iconic 3-Striped silhouettes as 3 unique groups, adidas have entrusted their valued Consortium partners to share their unique vision collectively, using a ‘Work Amongst Yourselves’ brief.

Representing for Toronto, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, London, Stockholm, Shanghai and Tokyo, this collection’s scope is truly global. Patta, Alife, Limited Editions and Sneakers’n’stuff make up the first group, Goodfoot, Undefeated, DQM and Huf make up the second, with the trio completed by the formation of ACU, D-Mop, Crooked Tongues and VA.

The first wave of 3Way Consortium releases from adidas Originals unites three of Europe’s leading sneaker boutiques – Patta, Sneakersnstuff and LimitEditions, representing Amsterdam, Stockholm and Barcelona respectively, with New York’s A.R.C. Opting to rework a shoe each in their own unique style, all four join forces for a fifth shoe that reflects the best of all involved. An eclectic collection, somehow it proves totally cohesive as a whole, reflecting the individual visions of all concerned.

We bring you the first part of the Adidas aZX collection, a massive effort by Adidas in which they invited high profile brands and stores from around the globe to design their very own Adidas ZX model. This first part consists of collaborations with ACU, Bodega, Colette, D-Mop, Limiteditions, Foot Patrol, Goodfoot and Huf.
You will be impressed by the designs in this collection in terms of originality as well as use of materials and colors. There is a lot more to come in the following months, but what you see here is already a lot to digest and will be releasing on August 8th.
