Mastermind Japan is an interesting label. Often producing no more than three of each item they design, exclusivity is one thing you’re guaranteed when buying a piece from MMJ. The latest skull and crossbones logo emblazoned item is this black cotton shoulder bag “featuring a white and brown skull motif with gold glitter writing on the front. There are two smaller skulls on the back and a black leather trim around the edges. The bag has a long black leather shoulder strap and a flap-top closure.” Of course, with exclusivity comes a price. The Art Convenience Store will be opening its doors at colette on September 21rst. The theme of the pop-up store is “Souvenir from Tokyo” and thus the store will feature numerous interesting collaborative items, including Hiroshi Fujiwara x Frixion pens, Jun Takahashi (Undercover) x Gimbis biscuits, Chitose Abe (Sacai) x Sanrio, Nobuhiko Kitamura (Hysteric Glamour) x Snoopy, Medicom Toy x André Kubricks, as well as a mastermind Japan umbrella. Today we can already preview the umbrella and the Kubrick set.

The Art Convenience Store will be at Uniqlo in New York and Doverstreet Market London before arriving at colette. Afterwards it will travel to Joyce Hong Kong and Isetan Tokyo.

mastermind JAPAN has worked on some extensive collaborations this season for retailer Ron Herman. Next one in line is a get together with Dickies on some chino pants. They worked on a black and a beige pair. The pants feature extensive accents with mastermind JAPAN written all over, a special logo tag placed on the back and more. Both colorways of the mastermind JAPAN x Dickies pants are now available from Cliff Edge.

Another exciting collaboration by mastermind JAPAN has been released over the weekend. Together with Rocky Mountain FeatherBed Co. they created a series of down vests and jackets. To commemorate the opening of the eagerly-awaited Ron Herman store in Japan, the LA-based retailer collaborated with mastermind Japan on a set of down outerwear. Taking a detail-oriented approach, the pieces were styled in a distinctive America meets Japan aesthetic, with mastermind’s staple black on black vibe taking center stage. Just yesterday we showed you the collaborative Rolex Submariner between mastermind Japan and Bamford Watch Department. Here now a look at another high profile collaboration by the Japanese brand. Once again they worked with Visvim, this season on the Zephyr boot. The Zephyr is Visvim premium version of the classic Ugg boot. It comes in black and beige, both featuring fur linings and a crisp white sole. The mastermind Japan logo is featured on the heel and another small tag has been placed at the top.

Here comes an unepected, yet perfect collaboration between mastermind Japan and Bamford Watch Department. The two got together to work on the Rolex Submariner. Of course it comes in all black and just a small mastermind Japan logo placement on the dial. The collaboration is part of the Japanese brand’s Fall/Winter 2009 Collection. The watch goes for roughly 16′000 USD.

Sophnet continues to present high profile collaborations celebrating the brand’s 10th anniversary. The lastest one is a series of shirts with Mastermind Japan. They made three white button-down shirts, each featuring a large size Mastermind Japan logo print on the front. They printed it in UV ink, meaning that the logo will show up depending on the amount of sun that the shirt is exposed to. The shirt will be released in Sophnet stores and at Isetan from September 5th.

We get a look at the Mastermind Japan Fall/Winter 2009 Collection. As usual the brand keeps it simple in terms of graphics, aside from their own skull and bones logo. The collection features some fantastic high quality jackets, ranging from more technical pieces to leather and fur hooded coats. Most impressed we are with the heavy knitwear selection for next season.

The latest item from Visvim’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection is a desert camo tote bag in cohorts with Mastermind Japan. Taking one of this summer’s most popular short-haul luggage styles, Visvim and Mastermind constructed a heavy canvas bag with brown leather straps and a dual-branded interior zippered-pouch. The skulled infused Homer bag is now available at F.I.L. Harajuku.
