Hong Kong jewelry and watch brand Almost Normal teams up with Michael Lau on this highly limited collaborated collection. The collection titled ‘270 Degrees’, is a reference to the brand symbol, the owl, which can actually rotate its head to 270 degrees contrary to that myth. Almost Normal’s stainless steel timepieces here, feature a leather strap and Swarovski crystal, and come in three styles. 39 pieces in the world have been made for the pink gold colorway, whilst there are 79 pieces for the silver and gold ones. Lau completes the 270 Degrees set, with an exclusive 16cm vinyl toy. This collection is available now from Colette.

Not for the first time London brand maharishi and artist and toy designer Michael Lau get together. Once again they present a collaborative toy collection, including Lau’s iconic Mr. Shoe character, as well as a NYFatcap and TooBigFoot. The toys all feature colorways that are very close to the maharishi brand, which means orange and of course camouflage. The toys will all release today, January 8th, at maharishi in London.

A couple of days ago the Crazy X’Mas exhibition by artist and toy maker Michael Lau has opened at Time Square Hong Kong. The exhibition coincides with the 10th anniversary of Lau’s Gardener figures. He built beautiful large scale figures, spraycans and more at the center. Of course also some other art is on display and the artist also presents some special products along with the exhibition.

Back in 2007 famed toy designer Michael Lau and Hong Kong label Fingercroxx aligned with XLarge and Maharishi on a crossover project dubbed “XLAUGH.” For 2010, the two entities went back to the lab for the toy you see above. The ape-like character is previewed in two colors (the second of which is very Maharishi, suggesting their involvement once again.) There’s also a shot of Wallace from Fingercroxx holding the figure atop a Nike box. And we all know Michael Lau is no stranger to Nike collabs. Stay tuned..

After the first round of toys between artist Michael Lau and The Hundreds for the artist’s exhibition at La Barracuda, the two seem to have gotten together once again. This time they present a special limited edition colorway of the toy. So far no release date has been announced, but we will definitely keep you posted.

UPDATE: 200 pieces of this figure will drop on Thursday at THLA and THSF. There is also a matching T-shirt (seen after the jump!)

As regular readers will already know, Nike SB produced a limited run of woodgrain Janoskis for the monumental Gardener 10th Exhibition. What you may not know is that they also dropped an even more limited run with a lighter colored, more wavy woodgrain upper. Unfortunately for most of us, these were only given to a select group of friends and family and will never be for sale at retail.

Michael Lau worked with MINDstyle to produce another set of toys inspired by The Godfather and officially licensed by Paramount. The Godfather original version 2.0 is featured in a white marionette version and is limited to 300 pieces worldwide. It will be available for the first time to fans and collectors in Asia and Europe. The Godfather Classic version is a seated interpretation of the Don and is limited to only 500 pieces. Both styles are slated for a 4th quarter release worldwide.

We get a first detailed look at the Gardener 10th exhibition that we have been reporting about heavily these last weeks. Taking place at De La Barracuda in Los Angeles, the exhibition will showcase many old and many new figures by the Hong Kong based artist Michael Lau. Collaborators include Terry Richardson, The Hundreds and many others. The artist has been referencing streetculture and action sports culture for many years already, along with other inspirations such as music. The amount of figures, collaborations and special product being released for the occasion is definitely amazing, so we can only advise you to pass by should you be in the area.

Gardener 10th by Michael Lau is a celebration of his amazing body of work! The event surrounding his 10th anniversary provides an inside look into a unique subculture and an intimate portrait of the man responsible for a collectible figures revolution. Vinyl toys are here to stay, and Michael Lau has masterfully created a blueprint that will be followed for years to come.

Gardener 10th by Michael Lau is a look at the artist and what he does. Through his sketches, drawings, paintings and custom figures, the exhibition captures the essence of the art and toys of one of this generation’s finest toy makers. Art toys are all about the translation and connection each of us has with an artist based on a common set of ideals and experiences expressed visually.

With the vinyl movement constantly evolving, it’s hard to provide a definitive look, but a measure of understanding can be gained in this retrospective of the art toy scene explosion through one of its originals. His first ever exhibition and appearance in the United States documents ten years of Gardeners and celebrates the vision and creativity of Michael Lau.
