“Photographer, filmmaker, visionist Cognito showcases rare performance and behind-the-scenes images captured during the two year journey of making and supporting the June 2009 release of “The Ecstatic” (Downtown Records.) This special one-week exhibition features candid photographs of Mos Def, including images from visits to the Cape of Great Hope,South Africa, performing in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and a powerful series of US Summer Tour “end-of-the-night posse shots” featuring such artists as Jay Electronica, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu, and even a surprise guest appearance by the legendary Shuggie Otis. Cognito has also immortalized Mos Def in bright moments from “The Ecstatic” studio sessions with producers Madlib, OH NO,Preservation & Georgia Anne Muldrow. The photographs in this exhibit, soon to be published in book format, are offered by Mos Def to his family, friends and fans in order to share the many “ecstatic moments” he experiences while creating, recording, traveling and performing around the world.”

For the one week exhibition, which runs from January 30th until February 6th, Mos Def also teamed up with Union LA on a special commemorative t-shirt. The tee was released in store and is also available in their online store.

Creative Control presents the trailer for Friday The 13th: A Night With The Cool Kids & Mos Def, an upcoming film directed by Michael Sterling Eaton.

The Black Keys paired up with hip-hop artists such as Jim Jones, Mos Def, Raekwon, Ol’ Dirty Bastard and a cadre of other stars for a fresh new sound.

“Whether it be physical or figurative, whether it be the Berlin Wall or a social stigma, sometimes there are dividing lines that separate what should be together naturally. BlakRoc does not smash those boundaries or break down those walls, it proceeds as if those boundaries never existed and acts accordingly. BlakRoc sets the drawbridge between forms of expression, Hip Hop and Rock by doing something as simple as putting the artists of different genres of music in one room and documenting as harmonious collaboration takes place. Backed over the soundscapes of indie rock superstars The Black Keys, BlakRoc brings elite hip hop artists to record an album like none other, an experiment with no control subject.”

BlakRoc will be available Nov 27th on iTunes and select music retailers worldwide.

UNDRCRWN is releasing their latest collaborative project with Mos Def. The “Cut & Sew” collection blends a collegiate athletic aesthetic with Mos’ person style. Consisting of jackets and fitted caps, the release features monochromatic materials with pops of colorful details and bold prints, all mixed with hand drawing by Mos Def himself.

Kind of unexpected Mos Def appears in the latest photoshoot of the Neighborhood Spring/Summer 2009 Collection. The musician/actor wears some of the stand-out pieces from the new collection of the Japanese brand, including the biker Gore-Tex jacket and the animal print hoodie.

UNDR-CRWN got together with one of hip hop’s biggest artists and these days actor and television host, Mos Def, to create a capsule collection. Designed by Dustin Canalin for UNDR-CRWN, the collection mainly consists of t-shirts, as well as a few cut-and-sew pieces. There will be another delivery of the collection, that we can hopefully present you very soon.
