We got MOB founder and head designer Leah McSweeney to say a couple of words about the project.

“The Teasers are just to get everyone’s mouths wet wanting more. Kind of like what Faye does. The final video is totally unexpected and the teasers do not give away what it is. It isn’t a behind the scenes of the shoot. It isn’t sexually explicit. Sorry if that’s a disappointment to some! I’m really proud of this. We have done video before but nothing quite like this. It is new untouched grounds for MOB and that is part of what I love about the entire project the most.”

Now check out the final full movie here above. Enjoy!

Full credits follow after the jump.

20 years before there was YouTube, and Macaca, Critical Mass arrest videos, and the RNC, Clayton Patterson was capturing video that exposed the struggle between community activists and the often abusive NYPD. He dedicated his life to documenting the final era of raw creativity and lawlessness in New York City’s Lower East Side, a neighborhood famed for art, music and revolutionary minds. Traversing the outside edge, he’s recorded this dark and colorful society–from drag and hardcore, heroin, homelessness, to political chaos and, ultimately, gentrification. In the LES of the late 70’s and early 80’s, it seemed that it was impossible to take a boring photograph.

Realizing this, Patterson vowed to himself not to miss a moment, and he was a ubiquitous presence on the streets, in bars, and at parties, shooting literally hundreds of thousands of photographs and countless videos that captured the essence of the era in what might have been the most thrilling neighborhood on earth. For native New Yorkers, looking at his documents is like staring through a window to our own past, and the drugs, piercings, mohawks, kangols and graffiti on display are, in this context, not kitschy and nostalgic. Rather, they express the rich diversity of many little communities living together in a troubled little niche of the city, long ago changed beyond recognition.
Captured
will be shown this Friday, August 22 at the New Museum, Bowery, New York. Following the film, Clayton Patterson will be available for a Q&A. Event begins at 7:30.
View the full flier after the jump for complete details.

In May 2008, Upper Playground, celebrity tattoo artist Mister Cartoon, and photographer and director Estevan Oriol opened a series of four distinct retail locations in the Skid Row area of Downtown Los Angeles, including a pop up store that features a rotating theme of unique fashion and art concepts for short periods of time.
Beginning on August 14, 2008, the pop up space will be transformed into a tribute to film legends Al Pacino and Robert De Niro as part of their upcoming feature film from Overture Films titled “Righteous Kill.” The film will be released in theaters on September 12, 2008.
SA Studios Global, the creative agency of Oriol and Cartoon, was selected to create the film’s iconic poster, in addition to managing the street and grassroots marketing for the movie. The space will become the exclusive promotional headquarters for “Righteous Kill” and feature a tribute to the film’s stars. Highlights of the space include a customized movie poster wall of all of De Niro and Pacino’s films, and plasma screens throughout the room showcasing Oriol and Cartoon’s favorite scenes from Pacino and De Niro’s film repertoire.
In celebration of the film, SA Studios Global has also collaborated with Upper Playground, to create limited edition “Righteous Kill” apparel.
WHEN:
The “Righteous Kill” promotional space will be open to the public: August 14–September 15, 2008, Tuesday–Saturday from Noon–8 p.m.
WHERE:
The Righteous Kill Space (Next door to Upper Playground & The Last Laugh)
131 East 6th Street
(Located between Los Angeles Street and Main Street in the Santa Fe Loft Building)
Los Angeles, CA 90014
Tracing graffiti’s history from Philadelphia through its increasingly international scope, director John Reiss’s Bomb It! is the most comprehensive street and spray paint art documentary to date. Artists ranging from the Tats Crew to Shepard Fairey, Blek Le Rat to Kid Acne, and Os Gemeos to Very One are represented. The result is a broad catch of graffiti across five continents, an exploration of how art colors and covers a range of spaces and environments.
Not to be exclusive to "pro" graffiti interests, Reiss also allows law makers who believe bombing is a problematic activity. These thoughts counter the ideas of the artists whose interviews reveal the impetus for their activities. Boredom at times, but also social agitation and political commentary drive the writers. They’re notions connect the art to the global scene, yet ground and localize each individual. There can be no denying the increased interest and reverence granted to street art in recent times. While not exclusive to "graffiti," street arts new position in the art world still requires some succinct definition, and films like Bomb It! serve to investigate the reasons and meanings behind a constantly evolving and mutating genre.
Bomb It! premiers in LA this coming Friday, June 6. Check out the flier after the jump. The Bomb It! site offers a break down of current and future screenings.

“Deathbowl To Downtown” is a new movie presenting the evolution of skateboarding in New York City.
“Along with San Francisco and Barcelona, New York is arguably the modern street skating city, both in reality and image. Because of the unique background, experience and perspective of the film’s creators and the decision to “cast” the city of New York as one of the main characters, Deathbowl to Downtown promises to be an unprecedented, seminal film.
Like Rick and Buddy’s other work, Deathbowl to Downtown goes deeper than ‘just’ skating to combine documentary with an incisive and artful exploration of skateboarding and its culture. On one level it’s about street skating, but also an anthropological overview of skating’s epochal shift from the parks and pools of the 70’s, to ramp skating in the 80’s, to the street ascendancy of the 1990’s as seen from a New York-centric perspective.
With interviews covering the oldest school originators to the newest school up steppers, comprehensive and much of it never-before-seen video footage, and present-day film shot by Nichols and Charnoski, ‘Deathbowl to Downtown’ addresses broader issues: How changes in urban planning and design affected skating (and vice versa), the unexpected late 20th century shift of cities from places normal citizens feared to tread, to tourist destinations, and the parallels between the modern history of American cities and skateboarding. That is, the way New York, and skateboarders, went from being ignored and reviled through 70’s and 80’s to being accepted and celebrated. An entertaining, eye opening, thought provoking take on why the action on New York’s dirty, grimy, and hectic streets represents skateboarding to millions of skaters and non-skaters worldwide.”
Definitely a very interesting movie to be looking out for. On their website there are nice photos and clips to check out. Via Keith Hufnagel.

Conventional wisdom suggests that the rigors of Harlem’s Rucker Park can make or break a street baller. What happens when the court becomes the venue for a high school all-star game? Are legends and future professional success solidified?
Directed by Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys, Gunnin’ For that #1 Spot follows eight of the top 24 highschool basketball players in the USA as they prepared for an All-Star game at Rucker on September 1, 2006. Anyone with an eye to this past NCAA tournament will remember the names Kevin Love and Michael Beasley. They’re featured, along with fellow phenom Jarryd Bayless, and will undoubtedly also play a major roll in this upcoming NBA draft.
Going out on a limb, the film is probably better than HBO’s docudrama “Rebound: The Legend of Earl Manigault,” at least from the basketball perspective. However, the question remains can Gunnin’ overtake Soul In Hole for the number one spot of street basketball flicks? Answer that on your own, June 27 at select theaters in New York, Los Angeles, Portland and Philadelphia.
