We present the The Dark Knight Rises Opening Credits Project. Created by Doğan Can Gündoğdu for his digital video lesson in Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul, the 2 minute opening sequence perfectly translated the dark mood of the film into an exciting and catching short.

Known for his colorful art and characters, Japanese artist Takashi Murakami is on to his next project. He is currently producing a children’s monster movie, entitled Jellyfish Eyes.

“Using a cast of unknown actors and putting the film’s sizable budget almost entirely into special effects, the artist has managed to create big-screen incarnations of his ravenous, curious creatures that maintain astonishing fidelity to their canvas versions. But like “Godzilla,” which was born from the nuclear terror of Hiroshima and Nagasaki’s aftermath, Murakami’s film arises from a disaster: the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that rent his country asunder, killing thousands and displacing countless more (see Part 1 of our video interview with the artist, where he talks about his charity auction benefiting the earthquake victims).

Titled “Jellyfish Eyes,” the movie follows a young boy who after an earthquake has to move with his family to an “experimental city” where each child is paired with a small monster. The “angry feeling” of the children then gives these creatures great power, allowing them to grow from cuddly little companions to giant, omnivorous behemoths that tower over buildings and, in one especially gorgeous scene, tromp majestically through a misty forest. Havoc ensues.”

This is cool! Peter Stults has created this fantastic series of movie posters called Movies From an Alternate Universe. Stults re-imagines what popular movies of today would be like should they have been made in a different time with Hollywood stars of yore. Check out some insight into the project from the creator below:

Awhile back a friend of mine forwarded me a site where artist Sean Hartter made posters of films that, title wise, we were familiar with, but there was a slight difference; they were remade as if they belonged to a different era or a different genre, the name of the movie was there, but the actors were different, the style was different, and I loved the concept. So I went forward with this theme; what if movies we were all familiar with were made in a different slice of time? Who would be in it? Who would direct it? So here we are…

Could the cassette tape be making a comeback? Zack Taylor and Seth Smoot have created CASSETTE: A Documentary about the topic. Check out the trailer, as well as some interesting facts pertaining to the cassette tape.

A few months ago, the term cassette tape was taken out of the Oxford English Dictionary.

It may seem ironic, then, that the cassette has experienced a quiet comeback over the last few years, as independent labels issuing tape-only releases have begun popping up around the world.

What better excuse to take a look back at this beloved musical format?

As recorded sound continues its love affair with the downloadable, ethereal digital file, the tangible artefact is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

The Simpsons certainly get their fare share of remixing. Today we come across the latest one – the iconic cartoon characters appear on some famous movie posters, that were remixed by designer Claudia-R. The artist shows us what popular movies such as The Matrix, A Clockwork Orange, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and a whole gang of others would look like if they all starred The Simpsons. Although these are parodies and would never happen, it would still be awesome to see Nelson and Bart square off in The Bart Night.

Looking to be one of the more promising films to release in 2012, we take a look at the trailer of ‘Upside Down’. Starring Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess, the ski-fi movie is about two parallel worlds existing, one on top of the other and about the tensions between those two worlds. Addiction Incorporated is a powerful and true story about a scientist, Victor DeNoble, who in 1980 was hired by a major tobacco company, but ultimately went on to become one of the most important whistleblowers in history.

…he was testifying in front of Congress that, despite the sworn testimony of the industry’s chief executives, nicotine was addictive… and the research he did could prove it.

Definitely one to look out for.

Based on a viral video that made the rounds in 2010, the new movie Bad Ass was produced, starring Danny Trejo. For now it does not seem to be clear when the film will actually release, if it will go to festivals or to theaters. We will keep you posted.
