Nas covers Slick Rick’s “Hey Young World” for Levi’s new Pioneer Sessions campaign.

“Nas doesn’t possess Rick’s comic sensibility, but he did inherit from Rick a keen sense for the way precise detail and carefully chosen perspective can enrich a short story, the kind that populated Illmatic and his subsequent work. Nas’ re-crafting of “Hey Young World” is true to its source, though its harder, metallic edges suggest a bluntness caused by twenty-plus years without progress.”

American rapper Nas and reggae artist Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, have collaborated on an album entitled Distant Relatives. Above is a video preview where the two living legends discuss their new project, which revolves heavily around Africa; from ancestry to poverty. Originally scheduled for release this month, the album has been pushed back to later in the year.

Beginning of December the first Stussy x Nexus VII x NaS t-shirts have been released. It seems like the three got together once more and present yet another graphic tee. The t-shirt will only be released at the Stussy Harajuku Chapter Store and in the Japanese online store from January 10th.

Nas will be coming for a special event to Tokyo in December. For the occasion the artist teamed up with Stussy and Nexus 7 to produce two t-shirts. The t-shirts feature the artist in a special frame on the front, and both Nas’ and the two brand logos are featured on the back.

The Stussy x Nexus 7 x Nas t-shirts will be released on December 9th.

We show you the new NaS “Make The World Go Round” video featuring both Chris Brown and The Game. Part of the video was shot at the Alife L.A. store and they also got a shout out. Check out the video here above.

This past weekend Alife once again held one of their infamous courtyard music sessions. This time NaS was the act and as you can imagine it was a tremendous success.

Nas has linked with FILA for a one year deal. The company already has ties with Huricane Chris, who is certainly not in Nas’ league, and also promotes the rather awful Prada knockoff Helmsman. Nas cites a long affinity for FILA footwear as part of his decision to ink with the Italian sportswear company. It will be interesting to see if this results in a stronger push of heritage items in the coming year.

Mr. Nasir Jones may have changed the controversial title of his next release, but he hasn’t backed off when it comes to the artwork. Now "untitled," the cover features a bare backed NAS, classic "N" logo etched in the skin via (an assumed) whipping. The power of the image captures the intent of the original title, and NAS must be applauded for translating his original desires to the visual. This might just be one of the most striking covers in years.
