New Era XC Design Competition

New Era XC Design Competition

New Era presents the New Era XC Design Competition. The hat maker has partners with 90 design school graduates from some of the most prestigious design schools from around Europe, including Central Saint Martins. Each student had the task to create a unique version of the New Era 59fifty fitted cap and the winner would be awarded £10′000 to launch his/her career.

We have to admit that when we saw the above boxset for the competition we did not really know what you expect. In most cases, when hand over a sneaker or a cap in blank white canvas with some markers, the result is not very impressive. Well, we were wrong. Most of the creations that you will see might not be very easy to wear, but they are all very creative. Unseen designs have emerged from the competition, turning the classic fitted cap into a true piece of art.

“This exhibition is all about “self expression” and is positioned as “an authentic international lifestyle brand, with a 90 year history of creativity and design, partnering with the creative minds of tomorrow.” It is developing into a real interesting project with a level of creativity that is well beyond our expectations. The exhibitions will truly be unique. We’ve also created a collector’s book detailing all of the 90 designs as well as a snapshot of the brand’s nine decades in history.”

The dates for the 4 exhibitions of the works are as follow:

London: 4th – 6th November (Dray Walk Gallery, Dray Walk, E1 6QL)
Berlin: 11th -13th November (CircleCulture Gallery, Gipstraße 11, 10119)
Milan: 18th – 21st November (Spazi Originale, Via Savona 55a, 20144)
Barcelona: 25th – 27th November (Angels, C. Dels Angels, 16 08001)
Paris: 2nd – 4th December (Espace Vertbois, 40 rue Etienne Marcel, 75002)

Now head on after the jump to get idea of the works that will be on display.
