Los Angeles’ OHWOW gallery will be hosting Terry Richardson’s first LA solo show this coming February. Terrywood, as the exhibition is called, will be a showcasing comprised of 25 new photos from Richardson. The subject matter of the photos is inspired by Hollywood, and given the photographer’s style, this should be rather interesting to say the least. The exhibit opens on February 24, 2012 and will be open until March 31, 2012.

The Made team continues to make their way through the Art Basel Miami madness and yesterday visited the much anticipated ‘It Ain’t Fair’ group exhibition, hosted every year by the OHWOW crew. This year Materialism is the subject of the exhibition.

“The 2011 installment of this annual group show, now in its fourth year, takes on a thematic focus: materialism. The exhibition features work by over twenty artists, including: Daniel Arsham, Justin Beal, Anna Betbeze, Ashley Bickerton, Scott Campbell, Peter Coffin, Dan Colen, N. Dash, Sam Falls, Michael Genovese, Luis Gispert, Angel Otero, José Parlá, Sara Rahbar, Ryan Reggiani, Bert Rodriguez, Amanda Ross-Ho, Aurel Schmidt, David Benjamin Sherry, Lucien Smith, Agathe Snow, Jessica Stockholder, Nick van Woert, and Aaron Young, including a special, live performance by New York-based artist Michael David Quattlebaum, Jr., during the opening reception.”

OHWOW has partnered with The Standard Spa, Miami Beach to create a new retail store. The shop will carry a selection of curated products such as art books and hotel essentials, as well as hosting a community of artists including: Tim Barber, Scott Campbell, Julia Chiang, Dan Colen, Luis Gispert, KAWS, Terence Koh, Andrew Kuo, Ari Marcopolous, José Parlá, Agathe Snow and Julia Ziegler-Haynes, and others. The highly graphic shop was designed by acclaimed architect Rafael de Cárdenas and is a testament to his style.

OHWOW once again managed to bring together a strong line-up of artists for their 2010 It Ain’t Fair Exhibition during Art Basel Miami. Next to Jose Parla, art by Kaws, Barry McGree, Aurel Schmidt and other artists was on display. Dante Ross was there to document the exhibition for you, along with images from the Retna exhibition at Silver Lining and Rainbow City by Friends With You.

For the 3rd time OHWOW presents the It Ain’t Fair exhibition during Art Basel Miami. Once again the line-up of participating artists is very strong and certainly something to look forward to.

“t Ain’t Fair is the third edition of OHWOW’s annual group exhibition, presented to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach. Offering an alternative to the overwhelming mazes of art fair booths, It Ain’t Fair will highlight a cogent selection of leading-edge art. From painting to performance, sculpture to sound, the exhibition will occupy over 6,000 square feet of gallery space in a comprehensive survey of emerging and established artists’ most recent work. In addition, the exhibition will present special projects and programming, such as site-specific installations and video screenings. It Ain’t Fair is exactly that – not a fair, but a multimedia production, providing a critical scope of contemporary art innovation.

Last night Neckface opened his latest exhibition, entitled “Into Darkness”, at the OHWOW gallery in Los Angeles. Following the success of the Halloween-themed show in Miami last year, Neck’s new show features a slew of fresh paintings, sculptures and installations alongside an intricate Halloween themed maze. The show runs until November 20, 2010.

OHWOW presents the latest book from Dan Colen, entitled “Out Of The Blue”.

“Out Of The Blue focuses on the artist’s legendary series of paintings based on a single image of Geppetto’s worktable. Each image is made unique by the inclusion of different phrases eminating from the smoke in the blown out candle from the image. Published by Gagosian. Smyth-sewn hard cover, 9 1/4 x 11 1/4 inches, 43 pages, fully illustrated with text by Neville Wakefield.”

OHWOW announces the release of STOOPZ by Ari Marcopoulos.

STOOPZ chronicles New York’s fledgling skateboard scene from the early 90s. These photographs document the charismatic individuals composing this specific group of skaters and the urban locations they frequented. The work poignantly captures the mood of the time, and its pioneers, just as this now legendary skate movement began to take form.

An official book release and signing will take place on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 6-8pm at the OHWOW Book Club (227 Waverly Place, NYC). Free slice of pizza and beer with every book purchase.

OHWOW is again at it and has released The New Grand Tour Book this week.

“The original concept of the grand tour was born in the late sixteenth century when it became fashionable for young aristocrats to visit the great cities of Europe such as Paris, Venice, Florence, and Rome, as the culmination of their classical education. As rail and steamship travel became more accessible, the practice flourished and served as an educational rite of passage for Englishmen, Germans, French and Americans alike. The goal of The New Grand Tour is to revive, re-invent, redefine, and change the old concept by venturing well beyond a voyage for the privileged elite. Instead, The New Grand Tour would become a mechanism for a group of unique and talented artists to interact with foreign cultures in an appreciative and organic way, rather than simply as voyeurs.

Beginning on October 20, 2007, Young Kim, Deanne Cheuk, José Parlá, Rey Parlá, and Davi Russo began a thirteen day journey in the Far East. They began in Shanghai heading for the remote Yunnan Province, in search of the mystical city of Shangri la. With James Hilton’s novel, Lost Horizon as their guide, their journey took them through the beautiful valleys, rivers and lakes between the border of Yunnan Province and Tibet, through the Mei Li Snow Mountains and eventually to Beijing. While on this journey, each artist created new works within their respective medium, inspired by the places they visited during their travels.”

OHWOW presents yet another great exhibition, after having a series of outstanding events during Art Basel Miami and recently showing the new Neckface exhibition. This time they present Scott Campbell’s “If You Don’t Belong Don’t Be Long” in New York.

The artist is best known for his work with dollar bills and the precision of his work is once again also in this exhibition what stands out and impresses most.

“Scott Campbell’s new art exhibition If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long takes his traditional tattoo aesthetic and forces it onto a medium that most artists wouldn’t think of, let alone afford. Taking the kindergarten snowflake cutouts of your youth to an unprecedented extreme, the bulk of Scott’s exhibit displays stacked, freshly minted US one dollar bills carved out with an Epilog laser to create three-dimensional skulls, human hearts, and a (assumingly) life sized image of the grim reaper himself. Along with his macabre subject matter are equally impressive carvings written in a wispy, traditional tattoo hand style, as well as Scott’s lesser-known two dimensional holographic paintings.”

Yesterday we released a short interview with José Parla and gave you an early look at his work for the upcoming “It Ain’t Fair” exhibition, which takes place this week during Art Basel Miami. We continue to bring you some background information in anticipation of the OHWOW event series this week. Here now an interview with artist Julia Chiang.

Highsnobiety: Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Julia Chang: I’ve been living and working in Brooklyn for over 10 years focusing mainly on sculpture, installation, and works on paper. I was born in Atlantic City, NJ and like to believe I have a bit of clairvoyance and luck in my bones.

HS: What are you most excited about in this year’s Art Basel Miami? Which shows/events/exhibitions do you not want to miss?

JC: There are so many things to see I’m kind of overwhelmed but I am excited to see the David Lynch show at O.H.W.O.W. and of course psyched to see all the work together in It Aint’ Fair. I also can’t wait to see the murals Jasmine Levett at Deitch Projects has been organizing and I hope to see Santigold’s performance. I want to see the screening of Tamra Davis’ new film “Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child” and check out Creative Time’s events.

Leading up to the “It Ain’t Fair” exhibition by OHWOW, which is taking place this week during Art Basel Miami, we worked with OHWOW on a couple of short interviews with the artists that will be featured in the show. First up is José Parla. We talked his upcoming Art Basel Miami week and also about the work that he contributed to the exhibition.

Highsnobiety: Please introduce yourself to our readers.

José Parla: My name is José Parlá, I am a painter.

HS: What are you most excited about in this year’s Art Basel Miami? Which shows/events/exhibitions do you not want to miss?

JP: There is always so much to see in Miami during this time that is of a high quality but the most interesting for me will be the OHWOW It Ain’t Fair exhibition as I am part of it and I have no idea what any of the other artist in the group show have contributed. The Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz collection, the Rubell Collection’s “Beg Borrow and Steal” exhibition, and the Margulies collection are always on my list and of course the Art Basel Miami Beach fair.

Today we can announce two exciting exhibitions coming from the O.H.W.O.W. camp. The “It Ain’t Fair 2009″ exhibition brings together the O.H.W.O.W. artist community, featuring over 40 artists, as a group exhibition. Opening night will be highlighted by the screening of Cyprien Gaillard’s Cities of Gold and Mirrors accompanied by a performance by French symphonic composer Koudlam.

Last but not least the legendary Max Fish bar from Downtown New York will be opening up in Miami during Art Basel. Taking over a functioning bar space in downtown Miami, the team will be recreating an art installation out of the core elements of the Lower East Side location and importing it’s colorful cast of characters for the week. With a prime location downtown Miami, it will most definitley be the common meeting point for Art Basel attendees and act as the main clubhouse for all of the creative community during the fair week. A full lineup of live bands and dj’s will be performing nightly during ther week as well as movie screenings in an outdoor space.
