Brazilian street artists Os Gemeos translate their signature characters into animated form. Check it out!

Last night Os Gemeos and Futura wrapped up production on their “Giant Project” mural in New York City. We stopped by this morning to check it out, and caught the whole crew. From their blog:

This past Sunday we began a new mural in Chelsea, on the exterior wall of PS 11 (320 West 21st street ) together with the legendary Futura2000. The project was organized by Allen Benedikt (from AKANYC and 12ozProphet.com) with support from Nike and Montana Colors and in conjunction with the World Basketball Festival. The idea was to bring a ‘Gigante’ to NY, as we’ve done in Greece, Holland, Lisboa, London and Sao Paulo. Uniting two different styles from opposite extremes was one of the challenges, as well as the objective. The idea was to unite two styles that are completely different so they become one. The concept behind the flags (with the colors completely altered from their originals) signifies unity, a world without borders, combined to form “one world one voice”. Without distinction to language or race, without social difference… Where we all can live in a better world. We also sought to establish a visual communication with the children of PS 11 and the surrounding community that walk by the mural each day. Futura working on the pattern for the shirt, which we hope will prove that two styles from different extremes can combine harmoniously….

Os Gemeos and Futura have nearly completed their “Giant Project” in New York City. Guided by AKANYC and 12ozProphet the large scale mural mates signature characters and techniques from both Futura and Os Gemeos. The artist that appears in the photos below is Gustavo. His partner Otavio was busy up in the cherry picker when we stopped by. They hope to have this piece finished by the end of the week.

Os Gemeos and Futura have started working on their “Giant Project” in New York City. The giant mural by the artists will soon be ready and you can expect us to keep you posted on its progression. Both AKANYC and 12ozProphet are guiding the project.

Os Gemeos presents a fantastic new mural, entitled “Don’t Believe The Hype”. The artwork is part of the exhibition “Viva la Revolucion: A dialogue with the urban landscape” organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego 2010.

During our Art Basel Miami stay The Wynwood Walls were definitely one of the highlights. Actually the entire Wynwood Art District impressed us and was a great alternative to the otherwise very glamorous art scene and events that were going on throughout the week.

The Wynwood Walls is an outdoor mural project by Deitch Projects and Goldman Properties.

“Fifteen influential artists from Asia, Europe, Latin America (Aiko from Japan, Os Gemeos and Nunca from Brazil, Stelios Faitakis from Greece, and Jim Drain, Shepard Fairey, Futura, Barry McGee, Ara Peterson, Clare Rojas, Kenny Scharf and the team of Swoon, David Ellis and Ben Wolf from the United States.) and the United States have been invited to create outdoor murals on the warehouse walls of Miami’s Wynwood Art District. Tony Goldman of Goldman Properties, one of the major property owners in Wynwood, has made available a group of walls and buildings for artists to work on, concentrated in the area between 2nd and 5th Avenues and NW 22nd and 28th Streets. The project also includes an indoor space at 2550 NW 2nd Avenue where paintings by several of the artists and documentary photographs by Martha Cooper will be exhibited.”

The Os Gemeos mural in New York, that is replacing the infamous Keith Haring piece, is finally done and can be viewed in its full glory from now. The new piece by the Brazilian artist duo was commissioned by Deitch Projects. Make sure to pass by on your next NYC trip.

An intersting new Nike Air Max 1 Quickstrike will be releasing this week. The design and graphics of the sneaker pay homage to Brasil. The off-white/turquoise contrast is really nice and lots of details can be found on the sole, tongue, as well as on the heel. The Swoosh design is also interesting, along with the contrasting red outer sole and lining, as well as ankle graphics. The sneaker will be released on April 18th at Mita.
