Check out this special project Vans is doing with Nibwaakaawin for the Gathering of Nations Powwow/All Nations Skate event. For this event, Vans created several limited edition SK8-HIs, Classic Slip-Ons and Chukka Lows using Pendleton fabrics. Proceeds from the sale of the sneakers will go towards Nibwaakaawin’s fundraising efforts – a Native non-profit organization whose goal is to empower Native youth through skateboarding.

Pendleton launches a new ready-to-wear line inspired by the firm’s rich archive of Native American-inspired textiles and blankets. WWD reports:

After 121 years in business, Pendleton is breaking into the contemporary market for fall with a new line, named Pendleton, The Portland Collection, that’s inspired by — what else? — the firm’s rich archive of Native American-inspired textiles and blankets. The graphic Harding pattern shown on sturdy wool coats and raglan-sleeved jackets is named after a scarf the Cayuse and Umatilla tribes presented former first lady Florence Harding in 1923, while the earthy plaids on simple button-downs and tops got their origins in the same checked shirts the Beach Boys wore on the cover of their first album, “Surfin’ Safari,” in 1962. (Fun fact: the band was named The Pendletones before Pendleton’s then-ceo nixed the moniker.) The line works a more mainstream vibe than Pendleton’s current collaboration with Opening Ceremony, yet still skews toward the young, urban customer. Women’s wear includes cuffed shorts, oversize pullovers and trim day dresses, with cut-outs in the back, while the men’s pieces offer a similar sensibility with printed jacquard coats and cardigans, the requisite plaid shirt, slim wool trousers and skinny ties.

Though things have been quiet around the Ludwig camp lately, they’re kicking 2011 off strong with a Pendleton wool Scout cap. “Made from vintage deadstock USA made Pendleton blankets, we re-mixed them into a very stylish scout cap to keep your dome warm in all this chilly weather we’re having! These are 100% virgin wool and will be offered in two different colors (caps are one size: M/L: 23″) PS: They look really cool on the ladies as well.”

For Holiday 2010 Vans Vault teams up with Pendleton and designer Taka Hayashi. This time they decided to work on the Sk8 Hi and the Slip-On, both coming in beautiful light brown uppers with contrasting white stitching and Pendleton wool fabric. The two sneakers are now in stock at Bows & Arrows.

“The Standard Hotels group has worked with artists Geoff McFetridge and Chris Johanson on a series of  Pendleton blankets,” as reported by Selectism.  ”Geoff created his blanket for The Standard, Hollywood in black and light blue with initials ‘GM’; Chris created his blanket for The Standard, Downtown LA in heather grey and warm yellow, with the text reading “all people are multi dimensional.” They’re also available for purchase at shopthestandard. 40 blankets have been produced per artist in two sizes.”

We get a further look at the soon to launch collaboration between Levi’s Workwear and Pendleton. Compared to other collaborations with the wool maker, we appreciate the minimalist use of color in the collection, making it so much easier to wear. Also it will most likely be much cheaper than the collection of Opening Ceremony with Pendleton. Here we preview a shirt, a blanket and another denim jacket from the collection.

Today we can offer you a look at some still from Levi’s forthcoming documentary film entitled “Bares, Broncs and Bulls in the Navajo Nation” that was created to support the new Levi’s Workwear by Pendleton collection. “This short documentary film follows the lives of hard-working young male and female Navajo cowboys who ranch and ride in the Southwest desert of the US and will air on vbs.tv on November 15th.” The garments seen are constructed of rugged Cone Denim and featuring details like hand-warming pockets and Pendleton wool inserts for added warmth.
