Archivist, artist, and designer (among many other things) Clayton Patterson has documented life on Manhattan’s Lower East Side since the mid-1980s. The Front Door Book presents images and recollections of the people that have, in Patterson’s words, formed “a summation of everything I have learned.” The photographs in the book were taken outside of 161 Essex Street (Patterson’s home and gallery space), through the years 1985-2002.

Photographer Josh Cheuse put together a special limited edition box set for Other Criteria, the store owned by none other than Damien Hirst. The box set includes a book, a print and a graphic t-shirt, badges and a mix tape, all together housed in a collaged shoe box.
“Named after The Clash’s song of the same name, the collectors’ compendium Rockers Galore creates an edition out of Josh Cheuse’s remarkable intimacies with the music world over more than 20 years, and is compiled here in a format typical of a music fanatic’s hoarded collection.”
The Josh Cheuse “Rockers Galore” Edition For Other Criteria is now available here.

First screening on January 3 at Berlin’s Babylon Theater, the documentary will get additional playings on both the 7th and 22nd. No word yet on if other European cities will follow suit, but there’s little doubt showings will become more frequent.

For nearly two decades Harry Hammond was Britain’s leading showbiz photographer. Starting in the late-1940s, his camera captured the definitive images of virtually every leading British musician, as well as visiting Americans. Drawing on the invaluable archive of over 11,000 images housed in the V&A, Alwyn W Turner tells the story of Britain’s embrace – and ultimate domination – of rock ‘n’ roll, from the earliest days with Bill Haley and the Comets to the emergence of the Beatles and Merseybeat. This remarkable collection includes photographs of Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent, Billy Fury, Johnny Kidd, Cliff Richard, Eddie Cochran, the Animals, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Dusty Springfield and many more.
Halfway to Paradise: The Birth of British Rock is available now from the V&A UK and Amazon worldwide.
