Coinciding with Shepard Fairey’s May Day Art Show opening at Deitch Projects on May 1, OBEY Clothing will launch its May Day Pop-Up Shop on Friday, April 30, 2010. From the press release:

The pop-up shop serves as both a clothing store and a visual narration of Fairey’s work to-date. Capturing the raw and rustic esthetic of the OBEY brand, the shop is designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia. Hand-stenciled vintage military jackets housed in shadow boxes and wood frame silk screens line the walls of the store. There is a collection of custom spray paint cans, showcasing some of OBEY’s most famous iconography. A collage installation of black and white photos displaying plastered OBEY images from around the world is featured along one wall; transporting viewers to the time of a first OBEY sighting.

The store features a selection of 30 hand-stenciled (at Shepard Fairey’s studio) one-of-a-kind T-shirts, limited edition Pop-up Shop T-shirts and commemorative Shepard Fairey May Day T-shirts [pictured above] based on a fine art piece from his exhibition. The May Day T-shirt will also be available at shop.obeyclothing.com and at the ACE Hotel NYC.

Additionally, the store holds a hand-selected array of men’s and women’s OBEY clothing. The curated OBEY collection ranges from clean and classic styles to more forward design, including slouchy tanks, tie-dyes, light-weight double wovens, military inspired jackets, and a wide variety of denim.

The OBEY pop-up shop is located at 151 Orchard St in Manhattan (Reed Annex) and runs through Sunday, May 16th. Stay tuned for some surprise product releases.

The Diamond Supply Co. Pop Up Store opened its doors on December 17th, 2009 at the Prohibit NYC retail space on the Lower East Side Of New York. The Pop Up Store will be open until the end of the year and showcases the 2009 Diamond Supply Co. Holiday line alongside an impressive selection of exclusive DLNY (Diamond Life New York) items such as varsity jackets, hoodies, tee shirts and laser engraved skateboards. An opening reception takes place Saturday, December 19th from 5pm-9pm with music from Christian Rich and MeLo-X.

BBC/Ice Cream’s first ever satellite store opened this past Friday in London, UK. Verbal was in the house DJing for a crowd full of familiar faces. WAH Nails even had a booth set up at the event for custom BBC/Ice Cream fingernails. Stop by 38 Beak Street if you’re in town over the next few weeks.

Dr. Martens have launched their first-ever pop-up shop in Seattle, WA. Given the brand’s ties to youth culture since the 60s, Dr. Martens was drawn to the city’s vibrant independent culture and influential music scene. The shop itself takes inspiration from Dr. Martens industrial origins with boots and shoes displayed on wooden pallets, sitting against exposed brick and raw wood floors. Neon yellow lights provide a contemporary touch. Definitely a must-see for those in the area.

Quiksilver is hosting an eight day skateboarding event at 201 Mulberry in NYC beginning Saturday, August 22nd. They’ve teamed up with Autumn NYC to present a pop-up mini-ramp and shop open to public everyday from 11AM-7PM. There are also three events over the course of the week, including an art show hosted by Alex Olson and a mini-ramp contest hosted by Jake Johnson. If you are anywhere near NYC you should definitely check it out. Quiksilver does it right with air conditioning and free admission. Runs from August 22nd through to August 29th.

Following up on a stellar showing by Michael Genovese, Aaron Bondaroff and Al Moran’s O.H.W.O.W. invades Athens to presents The Greasy Spoon pop-up shop. Designed by Rafael de Cardenas of Architecture at Large, the venue echoes the design features of the O.H.W.O.W. space in Miami and showcases objects, books, ‘zines, art, clothing and all kinds of paraphernalia derived from the O.H.W.O.W. community of artists, photographers and musicians. The space will run for five weeks and feature a constantly rotating mix of goods and products throughout the summer. We highly recommend you stop by if you’re in Greece!

The good people at OFF THE HOOK in Montreal are presenting a POP-UP SHOP featuring MARC ECKO CUT & SEW and STAR WARS official collaboration collection entitled EPISODE. The entire line of specialized t-shirts, hoodies and jackets will be available at the POP-UP SHOP for the whole month of DECEMBER, starting Saturday the 1st and ending on Monday the 31st.
