From Curated -
In conjunction with Levi’s, The Hole Gallery is celebrating the legacy of famed (and now defunct) 8th Avenue poster shop PosterMat. The PosterMat exhibition, running through January 13, 2010, offers a fantastic selection of posters priced at $75 each. Artists included Aaron Bondaroff, Alison Schulnick, Andrew Jeffrey Wright, Andrew Kuo, Ara Peterson, ARE Weapons, Aurel Schmidt, Assume Vivid Astro Focus, Angeline Rivas, Alex Gartenfeld, and that is just the A’s! Barry McGee, Clare Rojas, Brad Kahlhamer, Kembra Pfahler, Bruce LaBruce, Dave Schubert, Dearrraindrop, Evan Gruzis, Gavin McInnes, Opening Ceremony, Jack Pierson, Jade Berreau, Keegan McHargue, Kunle Martins, Patrick Griffin, Maripol, Mat Brinkman, Robert Lazzarini, Shepard Fairey, Xylor Jane, Hanah Liden, Yoko Ono, and many, many more.
$75 might be more than the punk posters kids bought from PosterMat in the 80s, but it is still a decent tariff considering the available goods.

OHWOW presents its first collaborative project with Brooklyn based artist Luis Gispert.
“Gispert is a filmmaker, photographer, and sculptor, addressing a variety of topics in his work such as the infiltration of subcultures on the mainstream and the fragmented American experience. Regardless of the vehicle or message, the aesthetic leans toward theatric as his seductive imagery delivers a blend of opulent artifice with clever indications of acute subtexts. From photographs of surreal landscapes viewed from elaborate cockpits to stylized sculptures of tricked-out speaker systems, the work acts as a composite, melding what is familiar with the unexpected. Gispert’s message points out the fragile balance between consummate reality and the decorated facades we tend to build around it.”
The poster is printed double-sided, offset 20 x 29 inches on 14 Point Cougar Cover Bright White Number One Sheet UV Coated. Each unsigned poster is numbered x/50 and will be shipped flat. The poster is available from today in store and online.

Today we received the new Carhartt Brand Book Vol. 1. The brand starts to present seasonal books, similar to some of the Japanese brands. Inside the first issue, we came across an interesting project. As part of their Spring/Summer 2009 Collection, Carhartt got together with Krink. The collaboration consists of an exclusive set of three K-71 permanent markers, that includes a customized version of the infamous Carhartt Dearborn Canvas brown. As an add-on they also produced a t-shirt series, limited to 250 pieces, as well as 250 limited edition silkscreen posters. Both the markers and the t-shirts come in re-usable canvas bags in the distinctive colors of the market set. A release is set some time in the near future.
