Our Radcollector Team is currently in Paris for the Quicksilver Skate Demo, a large event organized in collaboration with Tony Hawk, featuring the art of Parisian artist André all over. We already showed you the Quiksilver surfboards that the artist painted some time ago. Keep an eye on Radcollector for up to date reporting of the event. Parisian graffiti artist André once again keeps himself busy these days. Just recently we reported about his collaboration with Incase as part of the Curated by Arkitip collection. Here we take a look now at a series of Quiksilver that the artist custom hand painted with his artwork. Overall he worked on 12 surfboard. For now it is now clear whether these will be sold, auctioned off or not come out at all. We will keep you posted.

To celebrate their 40th anniversary, Quiksilver got together with Japanese photographer Takashi Kumagai to work on a capsule collection and a series of artist photographs. The outcome is a heritage inspired collection, which consists of pants, backpacks, jackets and shirts. Branding is kept to a minimum and compared to the regular Quicksilver collection, the line rather concentrates on quality and materials, rather than bold graphics. colette will be releasing the collection November 20th.

Quiksilver is hosting an eight day skateboarding event at 201 Mulberry in NYC beginning Saturday, August 22nd. They’ve teamed up with Autumn NYC to present a pop-up mini-ramp and shop open to public everyday from 11AM-7PM. There are also three events over the course of the week, including an art show hosted by Alex Olson and a mini-ramp contest hosted by Jake Johnson. If you are anywhere near NYC you should definitely check it out. Quiksilver does it right with air conditioning and free admission. Runs from August 22nd through to August 29th.

Quiksilver has partnered with André Balazs’ The Standard Hotels to market cobranded men’s and women’s swimsuits. The boardshorts are a Diamond Dobby reissue of the original design from 70s and 80s with new patterns inspired by the 4 Standard hotels in Hollywood, Downtown LA, Miami, and NY. Each pair of boardshorts has a list of addresses in the waistband, carefully curated by Natas Kaupas (Skateboarding legend and Quiksilver Creative Director) corresponding to 5 unique destinations near each of the hotels. A bikini inspired by one of Quiksilver first designs will also be released. Set to launch on August 8th, the boardshorts and bikini will be distributed via the first-ever poolside vending machines in the hotel’s four properties, in their boutiques and online at shopthestandard.com. Each product is limited to 250 pieces.

If you are a regular reader of this site, Quiksilver is probably not the first brand name that comes to mind; however, we’ve recently discovered Quicksilver Limited, the brand’s premium extension collection, which offers some more sophisticated looks. For Summer/Fall 2009, Quiksilver Limited dives deep into it’s own archives, taking stock of a rich surf heritage and the artwork of Simon Buttonshaw and his Tom-Tom print. Tapping into a clean, minimalist aesthetic that combines nautical and military influence the current collection features pieces ranging from t-shirts and button-ups, to shorts and chinos.

Quiksilver is also stepping things up in the boardshort arena with the introduction of Diamond Dobby technology, a pattern that virtually eliminates rashing and chafing, while at the same time being ultra lightweight and drying twice as fast as the average boardshort. Quicksilver Limited is now available in select retailers.

Quiksilver got together with Japanese retailer Beauty & Youth. The outcome are two sets of board shorts, coming with matching tote bags. The designs hint at the beginnings of surf culture and certainly have a nostalgic look to themselves.

Following up on the collaboration between Quiksilver and Porter head designer Takashi Kumagai, the two brands also got together on a couple of bags. They produced a technical backpack and a duffle bag, both coming in bright colors. The Quiksilver x Porter Bags are now available at Colette.

Quiksilver has for the first time invited a creator to produce a collaborative capsule collection. They chose influential Japanese designer Takashi Kumagai, who is best known for his work for Porter. For Quiksilver the designer put together an interesting collection, which is both modern and colorful, but also references classic American workwear. The line is inspired by the 70s, 80s and of course surfwear. Colorful M-65 jackets, woven shirts, shorts and denim workwear pieces come together in this collaborative capsule collection. We like a lot the colorful pieces and the workwear pieces, but are less impressed with the shirts of the collection. Also the mix of different styles seems a little strange, at least to us.
