“Spring 2009 sees Real Real Genuine continuing to develop core strengths. This, of course, is in denim. A new cut has been introduced finding medium ground between RRG’s classic loose and straight leg. The mid-cut comes in raw and aged finish. Complementing the denim are two new trouser offerings, a selvedge twill (the Cornell) and the Kirtlington, a slim fit wool pant – work pants for the outdoors and the office. Back to the denim, new shirting selections include a selvedge denim western shirt, as well as a very sharp polo (Jasper). A few more of RRG’s excellent tees have also been added. Brilliant “Great British Denim” all round.” (via Selectism).

Music facilitates movement of cultural ideas and fashions. It also forges bonds between people. These notions are central to the new collaboration helmed by Real Real Genuine. Machine 17, the creative outlet for Ben Robinson of D.I.E. (and formally Full Count). The t-shirt celebrates the sounds and venues of Northern Soul.

A few weeks back the beautiful Burford shirt arrived from Real Real Genuine. Now, it’s got some companions, as the rest of the Fall 2008 line is beginning to filter in. The offerings hinge on RRG’s core interest – denim. Once again, the loose fit is available. This time it comes in a raw or relic wash redline selvedge. Accompanying those is reworked version of the RRG straight. The waist line has been reduced, making the sizing true rather than over-spec’d. In the model, the original RRG green and silver selvedge has been used. The newest item on the menu is the Jacket. No name. Few frills. In either distressed or raw, it features an exposed selvedge line across the yoke and down the sleeves. One hidden pocket for your valuables too.

It is no secret that we are big fans of Real Real Genuine. Earlier in the week we showed you the exciting collaboration between Vael Projects and RRG. The shoe will land with the Spring ‘09, which has some equally exciting garmentsto go with the sneakers. Japanese made plaid linen button ups, tees, polos, and, of course, denim make up some of the collection. On the denim side, a new fit willbe introduced. The Mid-Fit takes the curvature of the loose fit and melds it with the straight leg jean.

Unveiled last week at Capsule Paris, the Real Real Genuine x Vael sneaker project is the second footwear product from RRG. All white, with vibram sole, the sneaker follows the Vael trajectory of flowing easily from one activity to the next without sacrificing comfort or style. Previously RRG has worked with Lodger on the Middleton boot, and while the sneaker is an about face (so to speak) from that, the effect is equally striking. A product that is recognizable in silhouette and unique in detailing.

Richard Hobbs’ REAL REAL GENUINE produces limited, collaborative pieces that are true in nature. No marketing ploys, no ‘special holiday’ editions. Just garments and accessories (and even some fragrance) that are special because they ooze quality and personality. Hobbs translates a vast history of getting things made into an ethos of creating the best possible product, and he gives his customers the opportunity to join a rather exclusive club. I say this partly tongue in cheek, because while the numbers of the items are limited, the nature of the appeal is universal. RRG offers streetwear basics (denim, tees, and crews) that speak to an unspoken interest in the story, the quality, and the subtle differences which make “streetwear” appealing to so many people. 

Mr. Hobbs and I exchanged emails over the course of (roughly) a fortnight.
