Ricoh announced their new GR Digital IV camera, once again a gadget for purists. The camera comes with a hybrid autofocus system that combines an external auto focus with a conventional contrast autofocus system. The 10 megapixel cam furthermore comes with a built in flash, 3″ LCD display and can shoot photos and video. Look out for a release in the coming months.

We have been fans of Ricoh for a while, as they manage to bring together a nice set of functions and solid design in their cameras, while sticking to what is most needed, rather than adding lots of useless functionality. The new CX4 is the perfect camera to carry around in your pocket at all times. It is more compact than their GR range and also easier to use. It has been released this week in 3 colorways.

Porter gets together with photographer Rip Zinger to collaborate on a digital camera pouch for the Ricoh GR Digital III done with Stussy. The holster comes from their Black Beauty collection, featuring an entirely black upper and matching black carabiner.

We have reported several times about the GR Digital III Artist Project between Ricoh and Stussy, which is part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Californian brand. The collaboration included a Ricoh GR digital camera, as well as an exhibition by artists that shot images with the collaborative cam. Today Stussy presents the t-shirt as part of the collab and it will release on April 14th.

In celebration of the Stussy x GRIII Digital camera collaboration, Stussy hooked up 10 photographer friends with the GRIII to shoot what they see and feel. Participating artists include: Angela Boatwright, Kenneth Cappello, Reggie Casagrande, Josh Cheuse, Atiba Jefferson, Tyrone Lebon, Ari Marcopoulos, Juan Puente, Peter Sutherland and Rip Zinger.

As part of the 30th anniversary (XXX) special projects, Stussy has teamed up with Ricoh to produce a co-branded GR Digital III camera. Ricoh, the Japanese electronics company founded in 1936, has previously never collaborated with a brand to offer a customized camera body in their cult favorite GR Digital line.

Inspired by friends who use the brand’s equipment, such as Japan based photographer Rip Zinger, Stussy was impressed by the size, looks and performance of the Ricoh GR series.

To celebrate the Stussy x Ricoh GR Digital III release, Stussy will curate and present a photo project featuring virtual galleries photographers who we have worked with or admired over our 30-year history. Expect these images to start appearing on Stussy.com in early 2010.

Limited quantities of the Stussy x Ricoh camera will be produced and available for purchase through Stussy Chapter stores. Available in early February, 2010.

In an interesting collaboration, Stussy has worked with Ricoh on the GR Digitial III as part of their 30th anniversary celebration. Due to come out in 2010, the digital camera comes in a black colorway with blue accents and several new design elements added by Stussy. We will keep you posted on the release.

Recently Olympus and Panasonic were in the news mostly because of their high end micro four-third cameras. Today we give you a first look at the upcoming Ricoh GXR, which takes the idea of interchangeable lenses a little further.

“GXR is a new camera system that consists of a body and camera units. Each camera unit contains a lens (focal lengths differ between units), an image sensor of optimum type and size for the unit, and an image processing engine. By changing units, the photographer can handle a diverse range of scenes in a way that satisfies sophisticated requirements for photo expression. The slide mechanism adopted for attaching and removing camera units enables changes to be made quickly and securely.”

Whether or not the system will be interesting upon release, depends on how quickly Ricoh is able to fill the needs of photographers with a line-up of lense systems. But the idea is certainly interesting and different from the approach of other brands on the market.

A follow up to last years GX100, Ricoh’s GX200 offers a combination of portability and manual controls. Key features include 3x zoom, sensor based image stabilization and a 2.7 inch monitor. Additional lenses are available as well.
