RIP Alexander McQueen

Tragic news have reached us today, that British fashion designer Alexander McQueen has committed suicide today. Just this morning we featured his upcoming collection with Puma and especially in recent years he has had a tremendous impact on the fashion industry. RIP!

UPDATE:

Statement from the Family of Lee McQueen

“On behalf of Lee McQueen’s family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee’s family.

Lee’s family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this.”

In Memoriam. RIP Street Wear. By XLarge

xlarge rip streetwear t-shirts - highsnobiety We just got this really funny statement by XLarge about the death of streetwear. In the last couple of years with the industry blowing up, new brands joining the market on a weekly basis, we stopped counting the number of conversations about the death of streetwear, how the market is over-saturated and will break down. Of course a market cannot always grow, but so far it looks like everybody is doing fine. This said, the XLarge statement could not have come at a better time and from a better brand.
"With a sarcastic statement (in combination with 2 awesome graphic Ts) we are proclaiming the death of our own industry…. Street Wear. Since we started XLarge® in 1991, we have been warned by prognosticators of fashion that Street Wear was only a trend and would soon be out of fashion. I can’t even count the number of fashion trends that have come and gone during our 17 years, but it is a lot, and after all that time Street Wear is as popular as ever. So to honor the continued success of Street Wear and especially XLarge®, we are proud to make available to you, The ‘Street Wear is Dead’ Collection.
There are 2 Ts in the collection. One is for retail sales. The other is for staff only. We feel this is a way to reward our world wide Team XLarge® members with something extra special, as well as a cool way to market and promote the retail T-shirt.
Store employees and other staff members will wear the ’staff’ shirts while working during the week that the ‘retail’ shirt is put on sale. The shirts will be available starting the first week of June at all Official XLarge® Retail Stores."
Check out a larger image of the t-shirts after the jump.
