‘Gucci: The Making Of’ Book by Rizzoli - A Further Look

After a preview earlier this year, we take a closer look at the new ‘Gucci: The Making Of’ Book by Rizzoli.

“An unprecedented publication showcasing Gucci as never before, including thought-provoking essays, commentaries, and authoritative anecdotes along with previously unpublished contemporary and archival photographs. Published in conjunction with the opening of the new Gucci Museum in Florence, Gucci is the ultimate celebration of the world-renowned fashion house. Told through a loose grouping of words, concepts, shapes, and moods, the book tells its story through new conceptual forms and the free links between images, symbols, and objects. Conceived by fashion curator Maria Luisa Frisa and W magazine editor in chief Stefano Tonchi, this comprehensive volume showcases the genius of the fashion house through an exclusive lens with inside looks into the inspirations behind the design.

This gorgeous book designed by Arnell offers an in-depth look into Gucci’s origins, identity, influence, and innovation, including fabrication methods and appropriation of signature materials, past and present, and its influence among high society and Hollywood. Featuring contributions by Lynn Hirschberg, Judith Clark, Katie Grand, Peter Arnell, Maria Luisa Frisa, and a wide variety of additional important commentators, the book is a heartfelt and personalized tribute to the heritage and influence of this iconic, multifaceted brand.”

The book comes in a beautiful leather make-up with the Gucci monogram all over, wrapped in the iconic Gucci green/red ribbon. It is now available for purchase.

Ari Marcopoulus "Directory" Book by Rizzoli

Next year photographer Ari Marcopoulus will be releasing a new book entitled “Directory”, with publisher Rizzoli.

“Influential to both art and fashion, Ari Marcopoulos’s unique style of raw immediacy has made him one of the most important contemporary photographers. For thirty years, photographer Ari Marcopoulos has been pioneering contemporary photography by documenting subcultures such as skateboarders and graffiti artists, as well as landscapes and his own family and friends. Since his days printing photographs for Andy Warhol, he has amassed a huge body of work marked by its arresting and unsentimental intimacy that has been influential to the worlds of art, fashion, and photography.Bound to mimic a phone book, Ari Marcopoulos: Directory presents a collection of approximately 1,200 photographs, with curator and critic Neville Wakefield providing insightful commentary on some of Marcopoulos’s singular images. Copublished with Nieves, each book in this limited-edition series includes a print signed by the artist.”

Unfortunately the book will only release April 2011, so you still have to wait a little bit!

Muji Book by Rizzoli

Just the other day we presented the upcoming Stickers book from Rizzoli, here comes another interesting one about Japan’s Muji store concept.

“MUJI MUJI Book from Rizzoli , releasing on October 26, 2010, from Rizzoli, is a delightful brand book. Essays from designer Jasper Morrison and John C. Jay bring the growth of the brand into firm perspective. They write gracefully, but without the back patting celebration one might expect. They are, like the brand itself, matter of fact. Their tone is reflective of the publication as a whole – one that honestly presents three decades of advertising, product, and unique retail space. © MUJI, Rizzoli New York, 2010″

You can already pre-order the book from Amazon now.

Barbara Kruger Book by Rizzoli

Barbara Kruger Book by Rizzoli

Book publisher Rizzoli has released a new book celebrating influential American artist Barbara Kruger.

Bold, philosophical, radical, subversive: the art of Barbara Kruger focuses on decoding the social-psychological messages embedded in popular culture. Marrying pictures to words in a variety of media and sites, Kruger raises issues of power politics, sexuality, and representation. Borrowing slogans and phrases from the lexicon of thought, and using the potent weapon of pure graphics, Kruger’s art offers up powerfully distilled messages of word and image. This beautifully designed book is the most comprehensive volume on Kruger’s body of work to date. The book explores her work over the past thirty years, including many previously unpublished works. Aptly designed to embody a manifesto-like aesthetic, the book also presents bold spreads of the artist’s large-scale works and public projects, which confront such controversial and weighty topics as abortion, consumerism, spirituality, and identity.

The book was produced in collaboration with the artist and is now available via Amazon.

Check out the full cover of the book after the jump.
