Ron English has announced the release of his latest super-secret printing project. After months in development both at RetroLens in Denver, and Modern Multiples Studio in Los Angeles, they present the first ever hand-printed silkscreen 3D lenticular prints.

In his first solo show at the Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, the world renowned painter Ron English, father of the Agit Pop Movement, pays homage to Picasso’s GUERNICA.

Ron English presents some of his latest canvases from a series of paintings based on the 1937 masterpiece, which depicted the tragedy of the Spanish Civil war, transcribing it to reflect our troubled times, alongside an extraordinary body of new works.

In the show, entitled Lazarus Rising, the theme of resurrection is deliberately provocative and reflects the contemporary socio-political situation, presenting uncomfortable and dark insights beneath the slick, plastic face of our society.

A beautiful limited edition book has been printed by the gallery to accompany the exhibition. It is a hard bound book of 48 pages, with 29 full color images, costing £30. The introductory essay has been written by Paul Jones, and an essay by writer and critic Francesca Gavin gives an insight into Ron English’s pioneering approach to art.

Ron English will be in the gallery between 12.00 – and 2.00pm on Saturday 9th May to sign copies of the book.

Made by Monsters got together with Chapel of Dawn and Ron English to collaborate on the artist’s “Grin” Evil Charlie Brown vinyl figure. The toy comes in a special colorway and features both brand logos on the bottom of the foot. Via Juno.

Ron English will soon be back in London for the “Lazarus Rising” exhibition at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms.

“The new exhibition “Lazarus Rising” continues this theme, now dwelling on the unprecedented changes in the global economy, using prototypes of iconic cartoon characters and US comic books, so close to American culture and yet suddenly revealing in new ways.

By focusing on the under-the-surface meanings and obscure connotations of American icons, Ron English resurrects their original purpose by revealing the façade. It is by highlighting their inner contradiction that the usually open and recognisable public faces can then be seen for what they really are: tools that serve as corporate shills.

By distorting commonly recognisable characters English is able to change the narrative, and in effect, cancel out the oligarchic cooption. There is a certain illusive nature to American culture that, in the artist’s opinion, could definitely use a counterbalance.”

In an obvious celebration of the new President, it looks like a rogue member of Ron English’s crew of billboard hijackers has successfully liberated another ugly billboard; this time it can be seen on the corner of Pico and Fairfax in Los Angeles. Ron English, the modern master of Popaganda sat down with Upper Playground and FIFTY24SF for an interview feature in The Run UP. You can also hear from the man himself about getting sued, spending weekends in jail and his move from billboard to canvas, and how that has shaped his work. Definitely worth checking out!

A great new vinyl figure is coming up from artist Ron English. Entitled “Grin” the figure is based off of a pretty famous cartoon figure, and Ron English added some great details to it. The detailed skeleton mouth is certainly a highlight on this figure. Via Vinylpulse.

Ron English will mount an exhibition of his latest works, Mythographic Vicissitudes, at FIFTY24SF Gallery on January 8. The work is based on variations of modern mythologies. Involved is a mash of religion, art history, and obviously, a bit of tall tale mythology. The run is three weeks, ending January 29, 2009.
