Although motorcycle jackets are associated with rugged leather, Schott NYC again goes against the grain with this Perfecto Wool Harris Tweed zip in a rich tartan plaid. Schott NYC definitely has leather jackets on lock, so this variation of the popular jacket style is refreshing. Aside from the material and pattern, all the classic elements like the belted waist, shoulder epaulets, lapels and zippers are all in place. This jacket is available now at Barney’s.

Those of you lucky enough to snag a copy of Highsnobiety Magazine Issue 2 will no doubt have seen these already, however, today Converse has officially announced the new white version of the Schott NYC Leather Jacket Chuck Taylor All Star sneaker. As with the black and navy blue versions, the shoe features key design elements that tie back to the Schott Perfecto motorcycle jacket, including: heavy zips, quilted lining, snaps on the tongue and leather detailing. Available April 15, 2011 for at select Converse First String retailers including Stussy (New York, NY), Blends (Costa Mesa, CA), St. Alfred (Chicago, IL) and Kicks Hawaii (Honolulu, HI).

William Yan and We Are Not Pilgrims sit down with Greg Chapman, the creative director of Schott NYC. Ever since the motorcycle jacket has been heavily featured again in every fashion collaboration today, Schott NYC is of course back in the talk, having played in this field for many years already. While there, he had lunch Little Doms and discussed the jacket he named after long-time friend, Creative Director of Generic Man/Generic Surplus, Kevin Carney, who also happens to have named the Generic Man staple Chapman after Greg.”

Schott NYC presents their iconic Perfecto motorcycle jacket in a lighter khaki waxed cotton for Spring/Summer 2011. The usual asymmetric zip front, epaulets, multiple zipper slash pockets, zipper cuffs and belted hem are all in place, alongside a plaid cotton lining. Converse debuts new version of the Chuck Taylor All Star Leather Jacket with Schott leather.

With deep roots in American style and culture, the Schott NYC jacket and the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe have led somewhat parallel lives. Converse began in 1908 and Schott in 1913 and as the part of the 20th Century unfolded, Chuck Taylor All Star shoes were unveiled and quickly became nearly ubiquitous in American life. Not long before Chuck Taylor added his name to the already then famous All Star shoe, in 1928, Schott unveiled the first motorcycle jacket ever. Named the “Perfecto”, by the 1950s, the jacket had become a symbol of the new rebellion that was taking hold with the burgeoning teen culture that arose after the War.

Referenced in classic film and television— the uniform of the rock and roller, the hoodlum and the rebel often wore a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor All Star shoes and a black Schott Perfecto leather jacket. Likewise, as the punk rock movement swept the streets of downtown New York City and beyond, a Schott leather jacket and a pair of Chucks became synonymous with the scene. Today, both Schott and Converse connect with the American spirit and represent the individualism that both brands have embodied throughout the decades.

Mating the original motorcycle jacket design with the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe, Converse and Schott developed a sneaker that showcases the best of both labels, including heavy-duty rear zip entry, zips under the laces and a patchwork of motorcycle jacket leather. Further details include quilted lining, snaps on the tongue, a leather rand, and the Schott label sewn discreetly inside the shoe. Available globally on December 15, 2010 at Converse First String retailers.

Not for the first time Schott NYC has created an exclusive range of jackets for department store Barneys New York. For Fall/Winter 2010 the two present a solid and pretty large range of jackets, including classic leather biker jackets, leather flight jackets, as well as some wool peacoats and more. The entire collection is now available online and in stores.

A couple of weeks ago we presented you the Meton Down Vest, that Japanese brand Victim made in collaboration with Schott NYC as part of their Fall/Winter 2008 collection. It looks like the two got together for another piece. Again they worked with wool and created the sleek "Melton M-65 Jacket".
The M-65 jacket comes in three colorways and without lining, which is probably the only negative thing that we can find about the jacket. In terms of looks very convincing and a great modern interpretation of this classic.

We came across a really nice piece from Japanese brand Victim in collaboration with Schott NYC. They got together on the "Melton Down Vest". It comes in two colorways with a wool upper, leather shoulder and collar patching and nice leather details on the pockets. Definitely a very solid piece for the colder months.
