John Baldessari for Supreme

John Baldessari for Supreme Skateboard Decks

Supreme has collaborated with artist John Baldessari on their latest series of skateboard decks.

“John Baldessari is an American conceptual artist born in National City, California in 1931.

Synthesizing photomontage, painting, and language, Baldessari’s deadpan visual juxtapositions equate images with words and illuminate, confound, and challenge meaning. He upends commonly held expectations of how images function, often by drawing the viewer’s attention to minor details, absences, or the spaces between things. By placing colorful dots over faces, obscuring portions of scenes, or juxtaposing stock photographs with quixotic phrases, he injects humor and dissonance into vernacular imagery. His art has been featured in more than 120 solo exhibitions and 300 group exhibitions. This October John Baldessari’s retrospective “Pure Beauty” will open at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as will a solo exhibition at the Marian Goodman gallery.”

Supreme will release a series of three limited edition skateboard decks designed by John Baldessari.

The decks will be available in-store and online October 7th. They will be available in Japan on October 9th.

More detailed images of the decks follow after the jump.

Living Proof x Ellen Stagg x Justine Jolie Skateboard Deck
It’s no secret that we have a certain soft spot for boards like these. So does Rad Collector. “Girls on boards is not new but its also seldom done as amazingly well as this yet to be released collabo between Philly’s Living Proof Magazine and ertoic photographer Ellen Stagg. The board which features adult film star Justine Joli’s considerable ASSets, is going to be a hot commodity when it drops.”

Daniel Josefsohn “Newton Frontside Air” Skateboard Deck

Daniel Josefsohn "Newton Frontside Air" Skateboard Decks

German photographer Daniel Josefsohn presents the “Newton Frontside Air” skateboard deck in his first large scale solo exhibition at the Hamburger Kunstverein, that recently opened its doors. The photographer used to be a skater, in fact almost turned pro, in the 70s, until his skateboard career was cut short, due to injuries. He uses the occasion to remind himself and the world where he came from and thus presents his first skateboard deck as part of his new exhibition.

The photo on the deck is part of a series, which was heavily inspired by Helmut Newton’s style, yet Josefsohn gives it his own twist, by adding the Stormtrooper mask, an element that we have seen many times in his works over the last years. The deck comes in a signed and numbered edition of 50 and is now available for purchase at the exhibition.

More detailed images of the deck follow after the jump.

supreme george condo new front George Condo for Supreme

Last week we gave you a quick preview, today we can give you the official announcement of the George Condo for Supreme skateboard decks.

“George Condo is an American contemporary visual artist born in Concord, New Hampshire in 1957. He currently lives and works in New York City.

Condo arrived in New York in the early 80s where he and contemporaries such as Schnabel, Basquiat and Haring were instrumental in an international revival of painting. For the past three decades, Condo has continued to explore the realm of portraiture and psychological landscape in a distinctive style dubbed ‘Artificial Realism’. Inspired by traditional techniques and popular iconography, Condo borrows inspiration from sources as disparate as Playboy, European history, Greek mythology and American caricature for his dark, painterly and humorous work.”

Supreme will release a set of 3 skateboard decks designed by George Condo. They will release at Supreme stores and online on May 6th.
