Also presented during the 2012 Detroit Auto Show was the smart for-us, an interesting concept for the city, both energy efficient, ideal for the city and other terrains, and yet with plenty of space to cover all your needs.

“For the first time, the smart for-us translates the practical load layout of a pickup to the reality of 21st century urban traffic. With its small outside dimensions, it could almost go unnoticed in the bed of a typical American pickup. Under the body, it’s anything but ordinary: the for-us is agile and lively to drive, with state-of-the-art all-electric power from a 55- kilowatt magneto-electric motor.

The smart for-us has plenty of room for two people and behind them two slits in the cargo bed for the front wheels of two smart ebikes. Electric bikes are range-extending in two respects; The convenient docking station in the cargo bed ensures that the ebike batteries are always charged, and from a trip into town to a nature preserve outing, the smart ebikes enable smart for-us passengers to reach destinations that are out of bounds for cars – for example, park trails and restricted zones in cities.”

Mercedes-Benz Japan is releasing special edition versions of the smart fortwo BRABUS, including both the Coupe and the Convertible versions of the small two-seater. Aside from a special design package, the car comes with a turbo charged engine, adding 31 horsepower to the standard engine, up to 102 horsepower. They also added some beautiful aluminum wheels to the city racer. Only 200 of the Coupe and 50 of the Cabrio will be produced, with prices ranging from 35′000 t0 38′000 USD.

After having talked in one of our latest Highsnobiety TV episodes with WeSC brand manager Thomas Finn about their upcoming collaboration with Smart on the Brabus ForTwo car for Spring 2012, we can show you some first images of the end result of the project today. The car comes in a matte gold colorway with matte black roof and wheels, as well as black interior.

The Swedish fashion brand added lots of details to the small city car. We cannot wait to see it on the road in 2012.

Swedish brand WeSC hooks up with Smart on their cabriolet ForTwo for Spring 2012. Brand manager Thomas Finn talked to us during Bread & Butter Summer 2011 about the exciting new collaboration, how it came about and the various details that they added to the car. Look out for a release Spring 2012.

Car customizer Brabus presents the Ultimate 112, a Smart Fortwo in orange with 18″ black monoblock rims. Fully customized interior, exterior and guts for an “ultimate” Smart car experience. Some will love, some will hate, but the above photo is amazing either way.

Smart and UK brand Boxfresh have joined forces to collaborate on a limited edition version of the two seater.

“The collaboration was launched on 10th May at the smart urban stage, with the unveiling of a one-off concept vehicle that has been designed by the Boxfresh creative team using the smart BRABUS tailor made service in Germany. The Boxfresh creative team have handpicked bespoke design features, including colours, textures and finishes by utilising the smart BRABUS tailor made service. The cars body panels have a sleek matt finish and incorporate Boxfresh graphics and branding to create an exclusive one-off design which encapsulates Boxfresh’s signature style. This will act a taster of what to expect from the two brands later this year when they launch their first limited edition production model.”

The car was showcased last week during the Smart Urban Stage event in London.

Avant-garde meets avant-garde. The New York-based limited edition fashion and art publication Visionaire draws inspiration for its 57th issue from the unique two-seater smart fortwo. “Visionaire 2010″ is the first plug-in electric issue of the publication. 52 internationally renowned curators and art collectors were recruited to select 365 works of art, making this issue, in the form of an electronic daily calendar, a ground-breaking compendium of contemporary art. The cooperation with Visionaire was motivated by the launch of the second generation of the smart fortwo electric drive.

The 52 guest curators for Visionaire “2010” include artists like John Baldessari, internationally renowned museum curators like Klaus Biesenbach (MoMA) or Christine Marcel (Centre George Pompidou), contemporary art collectors like Pharrell Williams, Mario Testino or the architect Zaha Hadid as well as actors Natalie Portman and Tilda Swinton. Fashion designers Raf Simons and Marc Jacobs and Dr. Renate Wiehager, head of the Daimler art collection, are also participating.

Each curator selected seven artists. Artists include Adel Abdessemed, Agathe Snow, Bruce Nauman, Cao Fei, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Gabriel Orozco, Gelitin, Guyton\Walker, Kalup Linzy, Kaws, Maurizio Cattelan, Nathalie Djurberg, Olafur Eliasson, Paul Chan, and Steve McQueen to name a few. In this way the Visionaire issue “2010″ forms a compendium of contemporary art.

The issue “2010″, which is published worldwide, is a communications bridge between the smart electric drive and the first electric issue of Visionaire. At the same time it combines the design expertise of both brands. Following the tradition of the multi-format publication, the innovative calendar will be produced in a limited edition of 4000 copies and will be released in October.

colette worked with urban car brand Smart on a small collection of goods. colette chose a series of brands from current and new smart markets from around the globe. Participating brands include Opening Ceremony, Wood Wood, Andrea Crews, Lala Berlin and Melissa. With each  brand they worked on an exclusive product. The line-up includes t-shirts, shoes, jewelry, scarfs and tote bags and they are all available now at colette.

Not only do they have collaborations aligned that are now available in store, they also collaborated with Zozotown on t-shirts.

Japanese brand Bounty X Hunter and fashion magazine Smart joined forces for a limited edition hoody. The hoody comes in a very classic Bounty X Hunter outfit, in all black with the brand logo going over the hood, thelower back and embroidered on the chest.
It will be released the 22nd of November at Zozo.
