christopher wool book taschen 1 Christopher Wool By Taschen

Similar to the large scale collectors edition on Jeff Koons, that Taschen released a while back, they are now coming out with “Wool”, a book on Christopher Wool, whose work we have recently seen on Supreme skate decks.

Covering all work phases in large-scale reproductions and accompanied by extensive texts as well as production Polaroids and installation photos by Wool himself. Limited to 1,000 copies, each numbered and signed by the artist. Also available in an Art Edition, limited to 100 copies and with an original artwork by Christopher Wool.

Exploring Wool’s work in close to 500 pages, this monograph is exhaustive in scope and depth. All work phases are covered in large-scale reproductions and accompanied by production Polaroids and installation photos by Wool himself. Editor Hans Werner Holzwarth has previously collaborated on several catalogs and artist’s books with Wool. Essays and analyses by Glenn O’Brien, Jim Lewis, Ann Goldstein, Anne Pontégnie, Richard Hell, and Eric Banks make this book a great read as well as a definitive study of the story so far.

The book can now be purchased from the Taschen online store for 750 Euros.

Robert Crumb’s Sex Obsessions

Robert Crumb's Sex Obsessions
We can never get enough of Coffee Table books. Nothing beats an interesting oversized, well designed book. Unfortunately since Taschen is around, one could buy several a week, it’s hard to keep up.
The latest interesting release is “Sex Obsessions” by artist Robert Crumb. The artist is probably the worlds most famous underground cartoonist and has released impressive works over the years.
Now Crumb has selected his most intimately revealing comic strips and single page drawings to create a 258 page encyclopedic trip through his sexual psyche. All images were created between 1980 and 2006, and all strips are hand-colored for a lush vibrancy never seen in his comic books. In total the book features 14 complete stories, including My Troubles With Women, If I Were a King, A Bitchin’ Bod, and How To Have Fun With a Strong Girl, as well as 60 single page drawings.
This signed limited edition of 1,000 copies is a work of art in itself, with every part of the book—front and back covers, spine, and introductory pages—created for this project by Robert Crumb. Each book also comes with an art print selected by Mr. Crumb.
Taschen is increasing their prices on some of their limited edition releases, so if you got some spare money, you better get yourself a copy this week!
After the jump some more page spreads.

Koons by Taschen

Those of you interested in art have of course heard about Jeff Koons. All the rest of you has probably seen the Supreme skateboard decks designed by the artist. Now Taschen Books has released an exciting book on Jeff Koons.
“From kinky to kitsch to conceptual, Jeff Koons’s art is anything but conformist. Since he stirred up the art world establishment in the 1980s with his unapologetic basketball sculptures and stainless steel toy blow-ups, Koons has been known as somewhat of a bad boy—a reputation he confirmed in the early 90s via works depicting him having sex with then-wife Cicciolina, the Italian porn star-cum-politician. Following this torrid phase, he changed gears to produce the gargantuan Puppy, the 43-foot tall floral terrier that now resides at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. Koons’s exploitation of the banal, in the aggrandizement and/or embodiment of kitsch and pop imagery, has become his trademark; detractors may delight in their naysaying, but Koons’s work commands millions at auction and his position at the forefront of contemporary art is indisputable.”
Taschen has now released the book “Koons” in a limited edition of 1′500 numbered and signed copies. The book comes with 606 pages all about this exceptional artist and is now on sale for 750 Euros.
