Amsterdam denim specialists Tenue de Nimes present a new hand-dyed indigo version of the Chuck Taylor All Star for the shop’s three year anniversary. 50 pairs of the shoes were dyed by the Manabe family from Okoyama – owners of Japanese denim label Momotaro and the Rampuya dyeing factory. Converse x Tenue de Nîmes Indigo-dyed Chuck Taylor All Star Sneakers

Tenue de Nîmes is launching a collection of special, hand-dyed, natural indigo, customized Converse Chuck Taylor All Star shoes that will be released during Amsterdam Fashion Week this summer. On July 15th Tenue de Nîmes will host a ‘Down-Town’ event in their Amsterdam-based store to celebrate the release of this limited edition shoe.

The Chuck Taylor All Star serves as a perfect muse for Tenue de Nîmes. With deep roots in style and culture, both the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe and indigo denim have led somewhat parallel lives. The Chuck Taylor All Star shoe and a pair of jeans have long been a staple of youth culture and music and have served as a symbol of independence for decades. Fittingly, Tenue de Nîmes asked the legendary denim experts, the Manabe family from Okoyama in Japan, owners of the Momotaro brand and Rampuya dyeing factory, if they would be able to indigo-dye a limited amount of 50 pairs.

Mr. Manabe agreed, and kindly provided us with 50 pairs of stunning hand- numbered shoes, dyed in natural indigo. Because of the irregular composition of natural indigo, the shoes all have a different signature. Each shoe is unique thanks to the traditional craft of hand-dyeing and the use of natural ingredients throughout the process. Every shoe is decorated with a Tenue de Nîmes cross on the inner sole. The shoes are sold in a Ramupya natural cotton bag and are exclusively available at Tenue de Nîmes in Amsterdam for €89,90. During the event on July 15th 2011 Tenue de Nîmes will officially present the limited collection of indigo Chuck Taylor All Star shoes along with an exhibit on the Japan-based dyeing process. Tenue de Nimes x Naked & Famous Denim

Naked and Famous x Tenue de Nimes Denim 01 Tenue de Nimes x Naked & Famous Denim
Amsterdam retailer Tenue de Nimes have teamed up with Montreal denim-heads Naked and Famous for a limited run of 13oz green, rope-dyed army repro denim. Getting the shade of green perfect was a challenge, but with the help of an army-obsessed production manager at the denim mill, they got it right.

The pocket lining is made from an army-grade rip-stop twill fabric called ‘Crusader’ and is produced in Montreal. The final detail is the duo logo leather patch, which is a 10oz thick natural veggie tanned bridal leather.

Every single pair is hand-numbered, signed and shipped in a custom carrier bag with denim belt-loop fastening. Made in Canada and limited to 24 pairs, the jeans are exclusively for sale at Tenue de Nîmes.

Grenson for Tenue de Nîmes Denim Blue Boots

Grenson for Tenue de Nîmes Denim Blue Boots

Denim on footwear is not a new concept and it keeps coming back every once in a while. Sometimes it works out well and otherwise it seems a little unnecessary. Here we take a look at the new Grenson for Tenue de Nimes Boots, mixing raw denim with brown leather on the upper with a leather outer sole – they came out beautiful.

“The ‘denim blue’ boot is inspired by an old infantry boot from around 1890. The material of choice, the fine Expresso Cyclone leather is combined with the roughness of British Millerain canvas, thus symbolizing the fundamental idea of this collaboration: old meets new, rugged meets sophisticated.”

Tenue de Nîmes x Tellason White Oak Cone Denim

Tenue de Nîmes has gotten together for the second time with Tellason to produce a solid pair of raw denim with a series of beautiful accents and details.

“Dutch denim store Tenue de Nîmes have teamed up with their San Francisco-based friends at Tellason for their second denim project. Tellason have produced an exclusive run of 24 hand-numbered denims made from a 13.75 oz selvedge White Oak – Cone denim. The pockets are lined with a vintage WWII cotton canvas tent fabric, made by a former Belgian mill. The top button is inspired by a coin from Nîmes that dates back to Roman times. The jeans symbolize the passion that Tellason and Tenue de Nîmes share for high quality denim and vintage icons.”

The denim is now available from the Tenue de Nîmes online store.

Video – Grenson x Tenue de Nîmes Factory Report

13 March 2010, 18.30 | Posted in Shoes | 1 comment »

Tenue de Nîmes visits the Grenson factory in Rushden, Northamptonshire to document the first Grenson x Tenue de Nîmes shoe. “Tenue de Nîmes was amazed by all the stages of English craftsmanship to finally come together in this characteristic shoe. That is why we decided to do a video about the factory and the nearly 200 pit stops that our shoe had to make before it got delivered in Amsterdam.”

Images of the Grenson x Tenue de Nîmes Brogue Boots can be seen here.
