Music Video: The Roots – Make My

The legendary Roots crew are back with a new album entitled undun this coming December, but until then, check out this video for “Make My” until you can get the full dose 12/6.

undun is an existential re-telling of the short life of one Redford Stephens (1974-1999). Through the use of emotives and Redford’s internal dialogues the album seeks to illustrate the intersection of free will and prescribed destiny as it plays out ‘on the corner’. Utilizing a reverse narrative arc, the album begins as the listener finds Redford disoriented–postmortem–and attempting to make sense of his former life. As he moves through its pivotal moments he begins to deconstruct all that has led to his (and our own) coming undun.

Video: The Legendary – A Film About The Roots

17 February 2011, 14.05 | Posted in Music | 1 comment »

We present “The Legendary – A Film About The Roots”, including live footage and interviews with the iconic musicians.

“During the latter part of 2010 Jeff Baraka and I had the opportunity to cover a number of concerts on the Hennessey Artistry Tour with the Legendary Roots Crew. I have always been a huge fan of the music created by the best band to ever grace the Hip-Hop genre. In this film I wanted to not only highlight the versatility of a group that has played with most everyone in the industry. But also capture candid moments of real human beings just trying to share the gifts they have been given to the best of their abilities.

In addition to the Hennessey Tour, we got an chance to sit down with drummer ?uestlove at the House of Blues in Chicago as the Roots gave the audience a glimpse of why they are considered by many the hardest working band in show biz. All and all the Roots have proven time again that they are indeed Legendary.” Via NR.

Enjoy!

Levi’s® Pioneer Sessions – John Legend & The Roots “Our Generation”

John Legend & the Roots cover Ernie Hines’ “Our Generation” for Levi’s new Pioneer Sessions campaign.

“Legend and The Roots’s modern interpretation of “Our Generation” retains the all of the authenticity of the original track: It gets funky from the outset, with big fat brass and an ice cold keyboard vamp, inspirational backing singers and a particularly gritty vocal by Legend who reiterates Hines’s 40-year-old message about making the future better by “getting rid of all the hate.”

Check out the behind the scenes video above and download the track here.
