Reebok x John Maeda Timetanium

07 November 2007, 11.53 | Posted in Sneakers | No comments »

A couple of days ago we present you the Reebok x John Maeda Timetanium. It was such an interesting project, that we thought we’d have a closer look at it.
The design of the shoe is inspired by Maeda’s “Laws of Simplicity”, looking at 10 different methods of how to simplify things. The code is featured on the lining of the shoe as well as the sock liner. The graphic on the shoe relates to his mathematical code, starting at the complex, colorful design on the heal to a more linear design on the front of the shoe.
Maeda is truly a Renaissance man- bringing together the worlds of art and science in a very meaningful and powerful way. Maeda is a innovator in the world of motion graphics, and embodies Reebok’s core brand values of celebrating individuality and authenticity.
Here below you find a video with the artist explaining the sneakers, the idea and the process. After the jump some more images of the sneaker. It will be released in a limited edition of 100 pieces, on the RBK Custom page.

Reebok x John Maeda – Timetaniium

RTEmagicC rbk maeda 1.jpg Reebok x John Maeda Timetaniium
John Maeda, professor at prestigious MIT Media Lab, is known for fusing art with the logic principals of mathematics. More than a year ago we presented you a project by the artist, at the time a collaboration with Mekanism Skateboards from France.
This time the artist got together with Reebok. The result of this interesting collaboration is an entirely new sneaker, the Reebok Timetanium. Based on Reebok Ventilator, the exterior of Timetanium featured original graphics by Maeda, created not with the assistance of already available design software, but from scratch utilizing Maeda’s original mathematic algorithms and computer codes. The interior lining of the Timetanium reflects the complexity of this process, with the original, hand-written calculations by Maeda, printed on. Via Freshness.
The sneaker will be released November 13th, as a limited edition of 100 pieces, and can be purchased on the Reebok Custom Page.
More detailed pictures after the jump.
