PUMA’s relationship with track star Tommie Smith dates back to the 1960’s. He was a sponsored PUMA athlete & took home the gold medal in the 200M in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics with the world record time of 19.83 seconds. After setting 7 individual world records in track & field, Tommie played professional football for the Cincinnati Bengals for one season and was elected into the National Track & Field Hall of Fame in 1978. These are the shoes that Tommie wore on the podium in the 1968 Olympic games. They have been lined with a metallic gold leather lining, a reference to his gold medal win. Other details include an embossed gold medal FOT, Mexico City reference on the sockliner & lateral and the tongue labels display his record breaking time of 19.83 s in the 200M race.
