Podcast: That’s Not Me Bro Talks to Chris Gibbs

Noirfancy hooks up with Union Los Angeles owner Chris Gibbs to talk about his history, background, his starting in the industry and much more. The interview from That’s Not Me Bro is very long and a bit all over the place, yet we cannot remember many interviews with the man that go so far back. Gibbs talks about interviewing with James Jebbia from Supreme, starting to work at Union New York, becoming a buyer and finally taking over many years later Union Los Angeles. They touch on Erik Brunetti and FUCT. Gibbs tells a great story about how Banksy tried to sell t-shirts to Union New York in 1998/99. He speaks about skateboarding, getting to know Supreme, Bape, Stussy and other brands. It is just a great in-depth piece that you should definitely check out. A nice ride through some of the history of streetwear and much, much more. Sit back, listen and learn.

There’s a new brand by the name of U.S. Alteration that has been identified in the Los Angeles fashion landscape and here is a look at their initial offerings as worn by Miguel de la Barracuda and Union’s Chris Gibbs. The pieces are basics such as terry sweats, tees and knit beanies, each featuring subtle details and branding. Union x Mark McNairy Holiday 2011 Collection

Previous releases between Union Los Angeles and Mark McNairy have been big hits, so why not keep it going, right? This time around, the two hooked up to on 4 new styles, as well as a restocking of the popular “Blue Bey” saddle shoe. In an interesting move, Union, along with Luke Meier, took a classic country brogue and freaked it a bit with the addition of some color pop — including red against a sand color and a light blue against a navy upper — in the welt area with some laces to match. All in all, it’s another solid drop from both of these great labels. These are all currently available at Union.

Check out the collection after the jump.

Tommy Ton Street Style: Union Los Angeles

GQ’s Tommy Ton stopped by Union Los Angeles to snap some photos of Beth, Chris and Ryno and here is a look at what came about. Union is undoubtedly one of the world’s best men’s stores when it comes to higher end street wear. Carrying a fine selection including well established labels like Visvim, Junya Watanabe, Neighborhood, Union also has knack for discovering and taking chances on stuff relatively unknown in the US like Anachronorm and Tantum. It was only fitting that this store be featured as part of this initiative from GQ.

 Moncler V The Final Collection

Moncler V is back for this Fall 2011 season, and apparently it’s the last go for the Hiroki Nakamura created collection. It was a nice run, but all good things eventually come to an end. Anyway, Union Los Angeles has put out their first of what will be a few drops this season. Coming in to kick things off are the Kaniho Hooded Down Jacket, a Tibetan Jacquard Sweater, an oxford shirt, and the Matterhorn boot in 2 colors: sand and brown.

Take a look at the first Moncler V drop after the jump.

visvim PFD Corduroy GORETEX Jacket

17 October 2011, 15.10 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

visvim-pfd-gortex-corduroy-jacket-1

I saw this PFD Corduroy Gortex jacket back at the Visvim trunk show hosted by Union earlier this year and it has haunted my memory ever since. Unfortunately, this 3-layer gem carries a pretty high price tag, but it is still something to marvel at on the aesthetics tip.

This season the PFD was made from an Italian thin whaled corduroy with denim contrast accents on the back of the collar and under the sleeves. It’s a 3 layer custom gore-tex. Raglan sleeves and stowable hood in the collar. Zip and button front closure.

Take a detailed look after the jump.
