Here comes a both interesting and unexpected new collaboration from Berlin brands Uslu Airlines and Acronym. One known for its fashionable nail polish and the other for its incredibly details technical outerwear, what a match.
Two special ops nail polish colors were developed for the project – matte black and matte military green. Acronym contributed a special bag to the project, along with a small nail polish pouch. Look out for a release of the special pack at colette in Paris, November 2011.

Collabos have become commonplace to the extreme, but once in a while one comes along that still is capable of causing a gasp. Case in point this joint effort from Mykita and Uslu, which packages a pair of aviators with color-coordinated nail polish–how fun is that! Available in lilac, neon yellow and grey, each aviator comes in a stylish suitcase with its respective matching nail polish. Available starting this week. E-mail shopberlin@mykita.com to order by mail or contact mail@mykita.com to locate selected retailers. Shot of products in gift “suitcase” after the flip.
The collaborative sneakers from Reebok and young Berlin artist Uslu Airlines (first shown at Bread & Butter) are on their way to colette. Putting a night club twist on two styles, Uslu Airlines worked a silver, disco ball inspired Retro Pop (dubbed the Retroball), and a glow in the dark Cortney Mid. Each pair comes packaged with matching nail polish. Women’s sizes.

Another interesting project was revealed at this summer’s Bread & Butter tradeshow – a collaboration with Uslu Airlines. The Berlin based nail polish brand previously worked with Nike on the Air Force 1 as part of the 1World project. With Reebok they worked on two high top sneakers for Spring/Summer 2010 and the least one can say, is that they got creative.
The Retroball comes in a silver disco ball look all over the upper. The tongue features a Uslu Airlines logo tag and a large strap goes around the ankle. The lining and lace eyelets come in red. Of course they are bringing out a matching nail polish with it, featuring squared silver pieces in it and was branded with the airline code BAL. The second sneaker is the Cortney Mid, which at first seems very simple, but reveals lots of details and graphics once it gets dark. The entire upper is glow-in-the-dark. The tongue features a Reebok logo tag. The matching nail polish for this sneaker was branded SEE.

After Marok’s participation in the Nike 1World Project, it is now the turn of Feride Uslu (Uslu Airlines), another Berlin based artist. The brand of the artist, Uslu Airlines, is known for their cosmetic grade airbrush system and especially for their high quality nail polish. Uslu Airlines has made a strong name for itself over the years. Collaborations with colette, Bernhard Wilhelm, as well as the participation in the recent Barbie 50th Anniversary Project are only a few of the great products that Uslu was involved in.
True to the name of their brand, Uslu Airlines was inspired by airplanes and the airport for their Air Force 1 Mid. The sneaker comes with a sheep lining, the very same used for the pilot seats in the cockpit. The green tongue logo tag stands for the signal color of the tower on all airports and the neon yellow tongue for the security vests of airport employees. The laces are white with a pink line going through it, which is a hint at the cords of a parachute. The strap reminds of the seat belts in the airplane and the inner sole reflects the color spectrum of Uslu as a brand. Last but not least, the 3M Swoosh is also a nice touch
As you can see, a lot of thought went into the Nike 1World Air Force 1 Mid Uslu Airlines and the outcome is a special, yet very wearable sneaker. Wood Wood Berlin will be hosting a release event on April 3rd and afterwards the sneaker will be available at Tier Zero accounts around the globe from April 11th.
Check out the video below, which was produced for the release of the sneaker, once again showing many elements of the inspiration that went into the sneaker.
