Jamieson’s has been a family owned business for five generations and specializes in producing and spinning wool from the sheep on Scotland’s remote Shetland Islands.

A special collaboration between Penfield and Jamiesons’s, the two brands have worked on the Gillman Jacket and the Gillman Vest, both incorporating Jamieson’s Shetland wool in an exclusive limited edition.

Both the yoke and hand-warmer pockets are constructed in Fair Isle patterned wool, contrasting the tough 60/40 Cotton Nylon outer. Additional insulation is provided by the premium 80/20 down while hardwearing copper snaps keep the front sealed against the elements. Leather trimmed piped cuffs give a tough finish and protect from wear and tear.

The cold days of the year have arrived and therefore one needs to start layering a little more again, because even a warm jacket by itself might not do the job. Today we come across the Loose Vest by Japanese brand rehacer and we really love it.

The hooded fleece vest comes in black and navy colorways, featuring a nylon zip chest pocket and some beautiful Norwegian pattern details on the lining, making for both a nice detail and contrast. The vest is now in stock at anoutcommune.

New York and San Francisco retailer The Brooklyn Circus has released their new Honors Varsity Vest today. Known for their fantastic varsity jackets, the new vest looks once again really nice, featuring a wool upper, leather piping and shoulders, as well as some BKc patch embroideries. Rocky Mountain Featherbed gets together with Japanese retailer Warehouse on an entire collection of jackets and down vests. Our favorite pieces include the two camouflage pieces, but the nylon down vests are also looking solid and will do a good job in the coming months. Not new to each other, Stussy and Penfield teamed up for another round of outerwear for Holiday 2011. This season they present the Landis Jacket and the Outback Vest. The Landis jacket is a warm down coat with duffle coat design elements. It comes in grey, black and navy, featuring a striped lining. The Outback Vest comes in the same colorways and takes a very clean and classic approach, also featuring a striped lining. Both pieces will release November 12th, 2011.

If you are still looking for a nice down vest for this winter, we might have the answer. Moncler V just released an entire series of styles. All of them feature removable hoods, some come with beautiful embroidery details on the shoulders, others with fur details on the hood. A nice range of bright colors is offered. Even if you might not want your main winter jacket to be too colorful, a vest with a good strong color hit is always nice. Union LA has them in stock now.

As part of its Fall/Winter 2011 Collection, The North Face Purple Label got together with Harris Tweed. Next to down parkas and down vests, they also present backpacks, funny packs and tote bags, all covered in the patterns of Harris Tweed. The collection is now available from Nanamica.

By now we should be all aware that outdoor gear is as dominent in the fashion circus as ever. Brands such as White Mountaineering have perfected the style and classic outdoor brands such as The North Face also make a strong push into the market with special lines, such as their Purple Label collection.

The North Face Purple Label has just released for Fall/Winter 2011 a new fleece collection. Using interesting all-over patterns and patchwork designs, they offer everything from jackets, vests, to neck warmers, bags, shorts and blankets. These are all great pieces for layered outfits this season and they do not only look great, but also function well and will keep you warm.
