Fresh off of our recent 7 Best Video Games of 2011 post, we follow it up with a look at some games to look forward to this new year. This year will see some new games from some extremely popular franchises such as Diablo, Tomb Raider, Grand Theft Auto, and a few others, but it also will see something extra special with the fusion of 2 of the most prolific fighting games in the genres history when Street Fighter meets Tekken. Sure, we’ve seen this before with Street Fighters vs. X-Men and Capcom vs. Marvel, but it’s still cool. We’re definitely looking forward to some Bob vs. Rufus matches. Another game we are very much looking forward to is The Last of Us. It’s another third-person survival horror game in a post-apocalyptic setting, but still looks like it will be a winner.

While at CES, we stopped by Sony’s massive section to check out the Vita handheld gaming system. The Vita has been launched in Asia, but it will be coming to the US very shortly, February 22 to be exact. This great little device is very compact and it features a very high resolution screen. While there, it was announced that AT&T will be providing 2 different options for anytime-anywhere connectivity. There is a $15 plan that will get you 250 MB of data a month, and a $25 plan that gets you a 2 GB allowance. You will also be able to utilize Netflix on this, making it a perfect travel companion. Retail for the Playstation Vita starts at $249.

For Xbox users (PS3 users will have to wait as is the case with all downloadable content from Call of Duty), January 24th will mark the kickoff to Modern Warfare 3 content season. The season will be a 9 month stretch of monthly DLC releases for Call of Duty ELITE subscribers. First off are two new maps: 1) Piazza, which takes place in Italy; and 2) Liberation, taking place in Manhattan.

2011 saw some pretty good to great releases throughout the year. The status quo remains with anything Call of Duty ruling over all, and when we say all, we mean pretty much all of entertainment. Here’s an interesting fact pertaining to that notion: the latest release from the gaming franchise was Modern Warfare 3, which took 16 days to break 1 billion dollars in sales. In doing so, it surpassed Avatar, which grossed that amount in 17 days. That’s power right there. Recently, MW3 won the VGA’s ‘Best Shooter’ award beating out stiff competition with Battlefield 3, Rage and Gears of War 3. That is a pretty debatable, though. MW3 is loaded with flaws be it a horrible respawn system, or the continued appearance of death streaks, which in essence, rewards bad gameplay. When you really think about it, Battlefield and Gears are probably more sound and enjoyable, but there’s something about Call of Duty that keeps you coming back. Now that the game has been out for over a month now, it’s not uncommon to hear about people jumping ship from MW3, but the thing is, they’re not going back to other popular franchises — they’re going back to the previous CoD release, Black Ops.

RockStar Games has announced this week that Grand Theft Auto 3 10th Anniversary will make it to your favorite mobile devices this month, including the iPad, iPhone 4 and several Android devices. The game will only play on the more powerful devices running iOS and Android and will go on sale December 15th, for 5 USD.

You read that right: Nintendo and West Coast Customs of MTV’s Pimp My Ride fame apparently are in cahoots and will be unveiling a special project at the upcoming LA Auto Show on November 17. Autoblog speculates that the easy tie-in could lie within the upcoming release of the Mario Kart 7 for Nintendo 3DS, which would make all the sense in the world given the nature of that game. I guess we will find out soon enough as the show is just around the corner. Stay tuned for more details.

Black Ops has ran its course and Battlefield 3 does not seem to be all that it was cracked up to be, but thankfully, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is not too far away from its release date on November 8th. Call of Duty’s Youtube channel has been gradually releasing tidbits of information pertaining to the game, and here is look at the latest clip that discusses some of the new weapons found in the game. Will you be picking the game up on release day?

The Call of Duty gaming franchise has undoubtedly been an absolute juggernaut in the gaming landscape and with its imminent release in November, we are sure to see a slew of products done in collaboration with Modern Warfare 3. This project here between San Diego’s Munitio and MW3 makes for a perfect match. Munitio’s 9mm bullet earphones, which dropped last year, have been updated here in 2011 with the Billets TM 9mm tactical earphones model done up with MW3 branding. This is a sport version coming in at a lower price point. These bad boys drop October 23rd, but are available now for pre-order at Munitio.

Sports Illustrated and Need for Speed have teamed up to deliver a unique racing and video game experience. 2011 SI Swimsuit cover model Irina Shayk and 2011 SI Swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen will be integrated into the game as “Mila Belova and Nikki Blake; lifelong friends competing in an illicit, heart-pounding race from San Francisco to New York in search of a $25 million jackpot.” Out November 15, 2011.

We present the official music video for the Yelawolf song “No Hands” off of his upcoming album, Radioactive. Inspired by Ubisoft’s Driver San Francisco video game, the music video was shot at several of San Francisco’s landmark locations and features Yelawolf driving the real-life Driver car throughout the City by the Bay.

From a marketing perspective an interesting mash-up. Yelawolf gets a video produced and Ubisoft gets promotion for their upcoming game release.

Yesterday we gave you a first look at the all new Nintendo Wii U, to be released late 2012. The new controller is certainly the most interesting feature, but we could not really imagine yet how it will change gameplay. The above trailer now gives a better understanding of how the controller interacts with the console. In some cases the added gameplay is no question, but we are not sure if it might also distract from the big screen in some cases. Make up your mind and check it out!

After presenting earlier on the new PlayStation Vita handheld console, we can present now the latest from Nintento, who has just announced their next generation home console – the Wii U.

The Wii U is Nintento’s entrance into the HD graphics market. The most special feature is certainly the new generation controller, which comes with a 6.2 inch touchscreen, that also works as a second display, showing you the same as on your main screen. Furthermore it can provide players with additional important information. Furthermore the Wii U can run older generation games and comes with motion-sensor capabilities.

The Nintendo Wii U will hit retailers somewhere between April and December 2012.

Sony Ericsson has announced their new Xperia Play smartphone this month. For the first time the company fuses their cellphone and their gaming divisions. The so called “Playstation Phone”, which is releasing March 2011, comes with a full Playstation game controller integrated. All other phone functionality is based on the Android platform. Let’s see if they can get some folks away from their iPhones with this little machine. In terms of looks it did also not turn out too bad actually.
